Hopefully, not us. Let me play in Columbus where there's little pressure to excel.

Goalies can be quite effective into their 40's.
- robin_steele264

Leafs have 4 or 5 upcoming goalies including Reimer. Will Luongo be our best goalie for the next 2-4 years? Absolutely but what happens when we're in a situation like Vancouver is in right now and one of them is significantly out playing Luongo? Luongo gets to ride the pine making 5.3 against our cap and who is honestly going to take a 37 or 38 year old goalie with 7 years left on his contract at 5.3 mill?

That's my problem. Not saying he's going to be the worst goalie on earth come 38-40. I'm just worried what happens when we have better options available. I don't want to be one of those teams that plays their higher priced players just cause they make more.

How did you come up with 5 times as much?
I hate to break it to you, but there are people on here who you may consider to be morons, that make 7 times as much as any hockey insider.

I just guestimated there's no way a dumb ass like you is making more than 30 grand a year.....so Dregs easily makes 150 g's a year and probably more.

Side note...but with all this talk about Schneider vs. Luongo, etc. etc. Does anyone else here notice that of Schneider's 33 games this season, only 11 were against teams that made the playoffs this year?

Of those 11 games, he went 6-3-1, with a 2.20 GAA, and 0.923 sv%, including a game against Nashville where he got the hook after giving up 3 goals on 5 shots. Still very good numbers, but he was definitely sheltered in the games he was chosen to play in, which was reflected in his overall GAA (1.96) and Sv% (0.937). Good, but better than Luongo right now? Not without further games to prove himself.

who gives a $hit, he's european, i get their names wrong all the time. Important thing is he's young and can stop the puck and doesn't have a contract into his twilight years.

Only 3 games, but still worth mentioning.

The number I find crazy is the fact that he had a 960 save percentage in the playoffs this year and lost..........

Goaltending is definitely not the issue but I see what you're saying.

The other way you gotta look at it is Vancouver only has a 3-5 year window to win the cup and if Schneider is going to net you the biggest return, maybe you go all in and try to get some pieces that improve your chances for the present or risk becoming the Sharks.......

Playing only 3 games is a deal when other goalies in that list have played 5-6 games. Bottom line, is that he's no longer in the playoffs, and managed one more win that his predecessor did. I'm actually more impressed with the way Luongo played, considering the team was missing D. Sedin (who was obviously a large spark for the Canucks) and the team as a whole played like crap in front of him.

There's always the question of whether Luongo will ever win in Vancouver, specifically, considering his past with them. Maybe it is time for all sides to move on. Then again, who's to say Schneider will want to stay long-term himself after watching first-hand what Luongo has had to endure; and Luongo has been near the top of his position stats-wise for a long time. Schneider only has to wait another year if he wants to test the UFA waters.

Almost all these people on here are severely overvaluing Luongo. His horrendous post season play and his inconsistency aside, he has one of the worst contracts in sports right now. He's a backup signed on for another decade at a big cap hit and he's still owed a lot of money. Theres a reason he rides the pine. I think if anything the Canucks are backed up against a wall and they'll have to throw in BIG in order to move his contract to anyone.

I think even the expected teams won't be as interested as Vancouver would want them to be.

To be fair DiPietro would suck on a 1 year contract at the league minimum.
