Doesn't Foley get easily confused anyways?
Again, I have to question the availablity of Schenn. Even if he is available, Burke isn't just going to give him away. Burke likes players with "truculence" and size, and that's something the Hawks don't have a lot of. I don't think Burke is looking to acquire one of the smurfs Bowman has on the roster. - EKolb13
I don't think anyone is going to help the hawks and give them anything. just talking about what would be helpful to hawks, let them figure out what it takes to get. oh wait, stanbo cant figure out much to this point. also depends on which smurf, picks, prospects were dangled, no? |

So I guess big rough and tumble teams with great goalies go out in the first round also. |

wow! that's a lot of anger to deal with?
ticket sales will be limited by price based on how many people can attend - thats the easy one.
don't know who the first politician was to cave to the threat, but they are idiots. here we seem to have common ground - if the owners want to own a team, its up to them to pay for the building they play in - not the tax payers. if they want to move....good luck...enjoy.
there is an extremely high cost of entry to create your own league - sports are a unique species. I have no problem with the anti-trust excemption. anyone who wants to start a league to cmpete...go for it - it's been done before - dpard
Just on the first two points:
Yes, ticket sales ARE limited by supply and demand - but salaries are not subject entirely to supply and demand- they are limited by fiat.
Two - politicians caving - I agree with you completely.
Anti-trust: I agree it's necessary, but it certainly isn't part of the free-enterprise dogma. |

And they have big bodies - Bickel, Stalberg, Seabrook even, Shaw (not so big but tough), Hayes, Brunette - not hundreds of them, but enough so it should have happened.
But it never did - PP or even strength. - StLBravesFan
how many of those guys played on PP? |

Joel Ward was a guy I thought the Hawks should look at...I know he didn't have a great year, but I like his game.
I'm happy for the guy.
Oh...and I'm happy fro Brouwer...he's movin' on to round 2! |

Part of the point - why didn't they - they were on the roster.
Look what happened when Bickel was down low on the PP - he scored the only PP goal. |

with regards to salaries, do you want 30 teams and parity or 30 teams and 5 outspending everyone and killing the league? or do you want just 10 teams and even more limited coverage on the home shopping network?
like any other sport, the owners need to be protected from themselves. sad but true |

The Hawks need a coaching shakeup, not sure that includes Q, but fresh input is needed.
I'm still stunned at how awful the special teams were....all....year....long.
In game 6 Troy Murray commented that despite all the momentum, when the Hawks went on the PP they slowed down to a crawl, and lost it. He simply didn't understand, and was at a complete lose. The listener (me) could literally feel his frustration as he described the "action". |

where do they come from then? big 'impact' players that can skate and play physical in FA come with a big price tag.... Low salaried big 'impact' players that can skate on entry level contracts take more than moderate projected prospects or overpaid under-performing vets. you have to give to get.... and you get what you pay for. If anything last offseason should have taught you that. Mayers, Carcillo, Monty, SOD, Brunette all on the cheap.
Totally agree with Ogie... don't trust SB to get much back in return for Kane. He's been burned on nearly every occasion. Tallon must be laughing right now with the trades he's pulled off (including Versteeg from my flyers for a 2nd which was used to get an ineffective old timer in Pavel Kubina). - moylander
We let 3 of them go. One last year. Now... They would most likely come in a trade. That can happen easily ... If our GM had a clue.. |

Look, I'm not really opposed to these things - professional sports are a unique enterprise - requiring both competition and cooperation between supposedly independent businesses (although I do not think cities should in the business of subsidizing stadium for privately owned businesses).
But when it comes to splitting up the revenues, I do NOT believe the players are overpaid as a group (forgetting Soriano, Boozer, etc.). They are entitled to bargain for whatever they can get - as are the owners
And I do NOT believe you can blame players alone for lockouts and lost games/seasons. You can just as justifiably say that the owners could have given in as the players v |

Kane needs a top flight finisher on his line. Kane is obviously more of a passer than a shooter. Thats why I thought getting a shoot first guy like Carter would have worked great on a line with Kane. Kane is an elite set up man. He needs an Elite scorer to play with .
I know we all thought Kane was an elite scorer too but after the last 2 season I don't think so. Now , I have no idea who is available for the Hawks to pursue but they need a top 6 forward , preferably a Center , they need a top 6 power forward , They need a top 4 D man , and an upgrade in net would be great but I think thats unlikely too. It sure feels like these guys are a one hit wonder. - mrpaulish
i will repeat my opinion of kane
get him two big bad a$$ wingers with average skill but can skate above average and he will produce big time in both goals and assists
kane is easy to play with win board battles and get him the puck and either drive to the net or to open ice and he will find you or you will get fat rebounds
putting smerfs with kane does not cut it. this is the fatal flaw of stan with his personnel decisions.
i will always believe stan should have kept buf first instead of gq sharp |

Stan should have fallen thru the thin ice by now and his ass should be sitting in a puddle. Useless hockey man he is.
Somebody should have asked those 2 whether they collaborated in moving Brouwer out. I can see the bean counters thinking - I won't give Brouwer $2.5M -I will get Bruno and Mayers for the same money combined and get a draft choice in a trade. And if Q wanted Bruno as a replacement for Brouwer he should get a kick in the nuts too. - RickJ

its very frustrating to see my team continue to make bad personnel decisions because rocky hired a gm with no experience. our gm is relying on his dad who is 100 years old and probably spends most of his day looking for things he misplaced. bowman is charge by stan to evaluate players for him and i doubt he can even see the players on the ice any more

Let's put Luke Schenn as a Hawk to rest. He stinks. One mistake after another in his own zone, slow, weak lateral mobility, no offensive upside but fairly tough.
Brian Burke tried to dump this guy since half way thru the season - no takers because he aint very good and the salary that goes with him is outrageous.
Now his brother playing for the Flyers is another matter, that kid can play. |
