Are you serious? How many concussions has Rocky has? How many owners have died because of continuing head injuries? How long is an owner"s potential career compared to a player's - and what are the chances that an owner's career is cut short by injury?
Players have their LIVES invested.
Seems to me they deserve what they can get out of the system.

I completely understand where you are coming from and agree with you to a degree AND IM going to sound really harsh here BUT: Players are more easily replaceable. Theres millions of kids playing hockey and many who are chomping at the bit to get paid the kind of money these guys get paid to work out stay in shape and play a game. These marketers can TURN any player with some skill into a star and storyline.
Its not as easy to find a person or group of people who want to invest 100's of millions if not billions of dollars into a sports organization. There is a limited number of people or groups that have this type of capital or wherewithal. It comes down to simple value over replacement.
Its all about trying to be as fair as you can, in a reality that's skewed towards unfairness. Not an easy task.
