Good goalies are the rarest breed in this sport. Gillis will still get a very good package for him, because the options for other teams is Vokoun or Clemmensen. I can tell you one thing. Having Loungo on the market just killed the trade market for Bernier and company. He is proven and established. His contract isn't like 7 or 8 million a year in cap hit... Its a reasonable 5.3 million... Sure its a long contract, but that just means you dont have to renegotiate with him. And it appears that when he wont be "the man" then he is willing to move on... so there is always the possibility of trading him again later in the contract to a team that needs the cap hit without paying the salary. Or there may be an amnesty clause later....

When a goalie the calibur of Loungo comes on the market, I dont think his contract is going to have much of a factor on his value. Teams will be bidding the highest price for him. If he was UFA, someone would be offereing him just about the same numbers they are going to be paying him anyway...

What good goalie has been traded in the past few years that brought back a significant return?

Varlamov brought back a stellar return, but he's young and developing with a short term deal.

Goalies haven't had much value in trade since the lockout.

Kind of like what happened to Bob here... But it didn't stop the Flyers...

...and Bob won how many game 7's against the defending Stanley Cup champs?

It is also being reported that Thomas may be on the trade block.

Supposedly, the Bruins are upset at his White House shun and several comments he made that distanced himself from the team...take it for what it's worth...probably has as much to do with Rask being ready to take over as anything

No, Pittsburgh was the first round. Thinking like that will result in an early summer.

I'm saying as a Fan, reflecting on the road to win the cup... Not as a player. We can look back and say... We had to beat Pittsburgh... That was our conference final...

I wonder with Luongo and Thomas possibly on the market, how that will effect what the Flyers could possibly get in return for Bob. If they are even entertaining the possibility of dealing Bob.

Possibly?

As much as I would have liked to see the Flyers beat them, I am happy the Bruins are out of it, especially after Ward's goal provoked waves of racist comments from B's fans on twitter.

No, that was the first round. If the Flyers lose to the Caps or whoever, I'm not going to care that they beat the Pens. I want a Stanley Cup, not just to be able to gloat at Pens' fans

Not as far as I'm concerned. If the Flyers get to the Conference Final and lose it and fail to advance to the Cup Finals. As a Fan I won't be looking back at the Pens series and say whoopee, we beat the Pens. I'll be happy with the team for the Season, but I'll be disapointed they lost the Series.

Fact is Bob ain't worth that much right now. He's still "the backup" wherever he would go. He needs to develop a bit more still.

Honestly, Bob's value is probably less than it's ever been. Struggled down the stretch a bit, got torched in his lone playoff appearance(not all his fault)...unless they find a GM that really thinks Bob can be a starter, can't see him having a ton of value.

When this next series starts I'm not even going to care who they beat to get there. Same goes for the round after that, and the round after that. I know this for a fact because in 2010, all I cared about was that they lost to Chicago. All those other series, even the Boston one, was like a another lifetime.

Well sure, but in comparison to the names threw out, Luongo and Thomas, he's not worth nearly as much right now.

Exactly. If they fall short, I'll look back on the season as a qualified success, but I stopped giving a crap about the Pens by Sunday night.

But if they add Luongo, it's basically the end of Holtby and Neuvirth there.
- Jsaquella

Right. Not sure I'd do that were I them. I also think they need a new coach.

Good goalies don't come on the market very often unless they are UFA. Varlamov is young, but completely unproven and still got a stellar return even though there were rumors we wants to go back to Russia.

If an unproven goalie, with a chance to jump ship at his first chance can get a stellar return, image what you can get from a proven goalie in his prime?

I don't see a ton of interest around the League looking at Bobrovsky as a starter. But as a young backup with potential, as part of a bigger deal. I think he'd have some value. But depending on the CBA and what happens with things like the bonus cushion, he may have more value to the Flyers keeping him.

If they play like they did against Boston, sure.
- Jsaquella

Maybe. To me they played like Montreal a year or two ago. Sit back, try to weather the storm, and hope for a break. That's no way to win the Cup.

You have to factor in the contract. The Cap hit is reasonable but the salary is high in parts. So that could take away from the return.
