Maybe. To me they played like Montreal a year or two ago. Sit back, try to weather the storm, and hope for a break. That's no way to win the Cup.
- Scoob

True. The Rangers always play that way and I think Boston lost because they went even more conservative than the Caps. They went into Tampa mode.

Welcome aboard the Flyers fan bus, n00b.

Yea but at least you got to see them win it TWICE in person!!! I am resorted to watching old dvds and utube clips. Plus you got to see the old bullies IN PERSON and not meet them in an autograph line.

Ill take the 70s over this decade any day! (For hockey anyways)

They beat the Pens in round one, how is that like a conference final win?

If they beat Washington and then say Florida, those series will matter a lot more ethan Pittsburgh

- Jsaquella

I was replying to the folks that were saying if the Flyers win, they wouldn't care if they took the "easy" road or not. I was saying, they could look back and not see it as an "easy" road because we had to go through Pittsburgh, a series that had the intensity of any conference finals I have seen in a long time.

And this is the last thing I am saying on the subjet, cause you will just find some way to twist this too.

I think the further they go, the better hunter looks... I really think this roster will get overhauled regardless of how far they make it this year. Watching them play lastnight they looked nothing like the offensive Juggernaut of 2 years ago and more like a lemare coached devils team.

I could be wrong here but when your coaching a team that is not considered very good, you prop up your defense and just take advantage of your opponents mistakes, which is exactly what Hunter is doing.

- flyers4487

Absolutely. The bulk of the roster is buying what Hunter is selling. They're working hard and playing good defense. Even Ovechkin looked like he was working hard last night.

The key is winning the players over to play that kind of system.

I just the Caps playing a better team defense. Holtby has been shaky at times and given up some huge rebounds. The Bruins were unable to cash in...
the team that continues to make the mistakes will lose

- phi1671

Agreed I definitely am not ready to say this guy is an elite goalie. What he did was great and all but he still has a ways to go. Don't get me wrong I think he can get there, he definitely didn't hurt his team that's for sure, but like you said, he got help from his team, and there were some bounces that could have went the other way and we'd all be singing a different tune. Gotta see what he does over a longer period of time.

If the Flyers win, why would anyone care if they took an easy route or not? If they win a Stanley Cup that's going to be all that matters, the Stanley Cup.

Nobody is twisting anything, your point simply doesn't make a ton of sense.

Bob helped take the Flyers to the POs his rookie year.

Lavi completely fk'd Bob by yanking him after the 1st game of the playoffs that he lost to Miller by a score of 1 to 0. Think that doesn't have a lasting impression and/or make a player doubt the coach and organization he is playing for?

Bob is 23 with a lot of potential.

True, but do you commit to a 8 or 9 year deal for Luongo when you have a kid like that sitting there? Not me. A guy like Thomas or Vokoun makes a lot more sense to split time with Holtby.

If the kid pans out, you let the short term vet walk. If he doesn't you look at going hard after an established vet then.

- Jsaquella

I my defense I was saying this before the news Thomas might be available was out. Thomas to Washington or Florida does make more sense to those teams with young guys that might be ready now, and in a couple years. But it still doesnt change the fact Luongo will still get a nice return. Your not picking him up for a 2nd rounder. Your going to have to give up a roster player and likely a mix of picks....

Yea I noticed that too, less flash more grit from ove.... he looked like he was trying to spark something anything.

Last nights game was surprisingly really entertaining, even though it was the polar opposite of most of the flyers pens games.

If we end up playing the caps it will be really interesting to see if the flyers can establish a strong forcheck and play their run and gun brand of hockey... or if the caps will be able to contain them and force them to dump and chase.

Don't think anyone is saying he's elite yet. Just that if they add Luongo, they're basically washing their hands of Holtby and Neuvirth, because of the length of Luongo's deal.

I wouldn't add luongo or want him if I was a cap's fan. Nothing against luongo but he's gotta go to a team that isn't cap strapped.

News that Thomas might be available has been around for weeks now.

Even if Thomas wasn't available, his contract's length was going to hurt his return. There's a lot of NHL GMs that are not willing to hand a goalie a deal for more than a few years.

DiPietro was a foolish GM making a foolish move. Bryzgalov was given the deal he got because the owner was saying in the media that the goalie issue would be resolved. Rinne got his deal because the GM was sending a message that the team was committed to keeping it's star players.

GM's don't like making major commitments to goalies.

The Flyers don't decide who'll they play. The haters can say all they want after Ottawa beats the Rangers.

Welp, off to practice guys. I'll make sure to ask Bryz if he feels relieved at all or not that they already got the Eastern Conference title wrapped up against the Pens. Just letting the paint dry on my "it's all round one from here" sign.

His cap hit isnt bad, his cash is for the next few years... I think his cap hit is less then Thomas'. Isnt Thomas at like 6 million?

Who the Hell cares what the "haters" will say. If somebody talks about an easy path to the Stanley Cup, I'll simply post a picture of the team holding it and retort, your team couldn't beat these teams, so STFU.

I don't care if we get to the finals and the other team is so banged up they have to go out and get the Sigakauw udder squezzers to play us and the Flyers beat them 10-0 everygame, I just want to win the cup. But there's people that want to be able to win the cup and have the media actually acknowledge the Flyers are good team for a change. (Please note all exaggerations were made strictly for point making purposes, thank you.)

I think Thomas has only a few years left. By the time Luongo's contract is up we might have a colony on Mars.
