Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Scratch off two more

The news on both Meszaros and Grossmann is encouraging. Also very important in this week of rest and recuperation is the healing of Bryzgalov's hoof-and any other injury the goalie may have.

It's also incredibly hard not to be inspired and impressed with Kimmo Timonen and just how much of a warrior he is.

In terms of matchups, I continue to simply not care who they face. I'm not going sit here and hope that they magically avoid somebody, even though I know that Florida or New Jersey are a better matchup on paper than the Rangers. I fully subscribe to the "Be Careful What Ya Wish for "....look at 2010. I'm sure that Pittsburgh was happy seeing the Canadiens beat the Capitals in round one.

They were not happy to see the Habs send them home in round two. The matchups are important, but unless teams perform on the ice, all the paper analysis in the world doesn't matter. Two weeks ago, the hockey world was certain that Pittsburgh and Vancouver would be headed to round two and on a collision course in the Final.

How'd that work out. Sure on paper, Flyers vs Ottawa is better than Flyers vs Boston. But what if Anderson plays out of his mind?

There are no modern versions of the Atlanta Flames or Colorado Rockies

No Flyer fan my age will ever forget the stunning two game sweep of the Rockies in 1978!

Who would've thought, the Caps winning despite Ovechkin.

Anyone know his ice time from last night?

Full slate tonight with the game 7's (and to a lesser extent the draft)

Go Ottawa!

The majority of the fans in my neck of the woods are Bruins, Habs and Leafs. Last year, of course every casual Bruins fan came out of the woodwork and proclaimed their devotion... now they can all crawl back into their respective holes.

Anyone left can beat us IMO, but I can't say I am disappointed that Boston is gone. I really didn't want them to have to deal with NYR and Boston.

As mentioned in previous posts, you play who you play. Control what you can and that's what the Flyers did...

As for Bryz, got a love the guy for dealing with the constant barrage of beat writers "just doing their job". Overall, I think he's handled it well.

Whoever the Flyers play, I think it's important to have JVR back to speed since it will provide them with additional depth compared to the other teams.

As much as I would have liked to see the Flyers beat them, I am happy the Bruins are out of it, especially after Ward's goal provoked waves of racist comments from B's fans on twitter.

James van Riemsdyk is taking advantage of Philadelphia's current break between rounds after returning to the lineup for Games 5 and 6 from a broken foot. He played just 7:31 last Friday and logged 6:46 of ice time on Sunday after being out of action since Mar. 1. "For me, personally, I think it's huge to have this week to feel better and get my legs back," van Riemsdyk said. "I'm sure once we have a team to play, we'll all kick back in. We all know what we're here for and the ultimate goal."

Andrej Meszaros (back) is still waiting to be cleared by doctors to take part in contact drills. "It was a serious injury, so I don't want to go out there not 100 percent," said Meszaros, who underwent surgery on his lower back on Mar. 21. "Sometimes I have a good day, sometimes I have a bad day. Sometimes it's sore when I wake up, sometimes it's not. After skates, it's a little tight. It depends on what I do." He skated with teammates again on Wednesday.

Nicklas Grossmann (concussion) participated in Wednesday's practice in a no-contact capacity. He was noncommittal on his status for Game 1 of the next round, but he could be available for the weekend if everything goes well for him. The Flyers' break between rounds has helped him recover from an apparent concussion he suffered in Game 4 versus Pittsburgh.

And it begins...

According to TSN's James Duthie, sources say that Roberto Luongo will submit a list of teams to the Vancouver Canuncks that he would be willing to accept a trade to. The Toronto Maple Leafs will reportedly be on that list and the move would make sense, but that doesn't guarantee that it will get done. The Leafs desperately need help between the pipes, they can afford his huge contract and they have personnel on the management end that know him in the form of former Canucks GM Dave Nonis and goaltending coach Francois Allaire. Luongo's possible exodus from Vancouver will be interesting story this off-season and something could get done as soon as the NHL draft.

They almost lost one of those silly mini-rounds the next season when Vancouver stole a 3-2 OT (I believe) victory at the Spectrum in Game 1.

Vancouver was a second place team, but were 25-42-13!

Its gonna be a bidding war between the Leafs and Bolts. Both are in dire need of a goalie. I think Toronto has more to offer tho(for once)

Thankfully they have the least defensive depth in the league and defense is Vancouvers biggest need. I'm not sure I can see them working out a deal when Toronto could in theory offer their 5th overall and Luke Schenn and not have it break the bank. I agree though, the Bolts would be a way scarier team with Luongo than the Leafs would.
