Ya, you hit the nail on the head in regards to fans of certain teams. I could not help but think that if this was the "most hated team" in hockey's fans that tweeted this how it would be justified to have such a title given to them. Even more so if Ward played for Vancouver, Ward himself would receive much less sympathy if any, from everyone just due to the fact that he played for Vancouver. Yes, people do associate Vancouver fans with rioting or being arrogant when they speak of them. The rioting comment has been made by fans of other teams as well as bloggers and that is what is always brought up no matter how unfair it is to true fans of the team. Having to defend ourselves to such idiotic comments gets tiresome. Being arrogant ? Sure, I can vouch for that. Despite not having a cup we have won 5 division titles in the last five years, back to back Hart trophey winners, a Selke winner, back to back President Trophey's and last year were first if not in the top 4 of almost every stat in the league. What fan wouldn't be a little arrogant of their team ? Tired of other fans saying " you play in a weak division". Sure, but we do not pick what division we play in and we travel the most of any other team in the NHL so that should at least balance it out. Take the Atlantic division for instance where they bus to half their games. You could add up all the airmiles of all those teams and Vancouver would probably be even with them in travel time if not have more. This makes a huge difference at the end of the season when going into the playoffs, not to mention making it to game seven in the finals. There are alot of players who downright refuse to come out west due to travel. This is why Jersey's GM was adamant about not screwing with the schedule a couple of years ago when they were toying with the idea of eastern and western teams doing a sweep in each NHL city every year as oppose to every three years for more fan exposure. He was not the only eastern GM who was against that idea either. Thats why the west will always be more difficult for a player to perform good year round as to playing in the east. Not saying the west is better just saying it takes a dedicated player to do so, mentally and physically. But I am getting off topic here, the fact that Boston fans are now being grouped together with those who tweeted racial slurs at Ward does not mean ALL boston fans are racist's, obviously. But be prepared to defend yourselves as racist's and poor loser's for years to come because of a few lowlife fans just as Vancouver and Montreal fans have been doing. Believe you me it will wear on you. Enjoy !

All good - I go out to watch games at Kilowatt on 16th and Valencia. There's a place called Grand Oaks nearer to my house that also plays games. Kilowatt is one of a kind though.

People with an agenda against the Bruins won't be able to resist using this topic as a (specious) means to disparage the whole region. Many of them will even have recent events where they were sick of being associated with a shady few in their own pasts, but will willfully look the other way and refuse to learn from those experiences.

Why?

As you say, the Internet is full of bumholes.

That is an absolutely ignorant statement. If Ward played for Vancouver, he would receive less sympathy, if any? Seriously? You take the insecurity and paranoia WAY too far. What those idiots did was sickening--no one, and I mean no one, is going to react differently to what was said based on what team he played for. How can you turn what happened into something about you and the team that you root for? How selfish and narrow-minded is that?

I don't think most hockey fans are associating Bruins fans in general with the idiots on Twitter. It's not like your Flyers fans.

I see.

Bad things are said on the internet daily by people hiding behind anonymous names. That is the nature of the beast. While unfortunate, it will never go away. The people that make the more outrageous statements are just looking for attention, ignore them and they will usually slither away.

Sad to hear the things being said about Ward.

I was around him quite a bit in Nashville when he was here and he is a class act. Great man, great character and a player I wish we would have kept.

Tough season for the Bruins but you cats are loaded and will be back and tough next year.

Hey, we made fun of Montreal when they rioted too.
My problems with that comparsion, yes, not every Vancouver fan was rioting, but lots and lots of them were, and they were all in Vancouver when they did it.
Those "tweets" were coming from across the internet, one came from a guy in Detriot who uses a Redwing avatar, some of the tweets came from (Gasp) Canada.

no matter where it came from, this kind of ignorance cannot be ignored or laughed off. In this day and age, it just baffles me.

Not exactly the "I have a dream..." speech. Not exactly "Can't we all just get along" either.

One nice side effect of this whole racist flare up is that many of the morons who posted their racist sentiment have been publically shamed and consequently deleted their Twitter accounts. Maybe some of them will learn something from their shameful behavior, much like many of the embarrassing rioters surely did when their drunken stupidity was posted all over the news, internet and social media.
