That's not something Ovechkin can change right now, though. The coach is opting to play a tight defensive game, and that involves using Ovechkin less. As a captain, the most he can do in that situation is be involved in the game.

He needs to hustle in his own zone, make plays, backcheck, and the time will start coming back.

Hopefully he gets to see time against Bickel and Stralman and gets away from Girardi now that Hunter gets last change.

The fact that he only has 4 shots in the entire playoffs probably part of why he's on the 4th line now. He's been struggling a bit lately, but I think the effort is there. Hopefully we'll start to see some better play from him soon.

I would easily replace him on the PP with a defenseman. It really doesn't matter to me if he's playing great or terribly. When the PP ends and we have forward defending, it just isn't a good thing. Why not try Gustafsson or take advantage of Kubina's hard right handed shot? If Meszaros can shoot, I'd love to see him fill that area but I wouldn't expect a lot of responsibility out of him right away. If having a skilled forward on the point is that important to Laviolette to give the D some rest, I'd at least replace Read with Schenn and play JvR down low.
