If we can win game 2, I think NJ has to start to become more aggressive. I noticed how CLarkson wanted no part of Simmonds. They probably saw how the Flyers fed off the fights etc in the Pens series and just wanted to let sleeping dogs lie. If we still win, they are going to have to switch it up. - Hextall271
That, and Simmonds owned him last time they fought...
if meszaros were to return later in the series (or later in the playoffs), who do you think would sit? lilja or gus? or would it depend upon the opponent?
would the flyers be able to exercise the clause on him and then immediately resign him to a contract identical to what was his "amnestied" remaining contract just to lower the cap hit?

i believe the nba rule is that if you amnesty a dude, you cannot re-sign him in the same league year.

So about that amnesty clause on Briere..(...cough) - PT21
What's he's doing is huge. I was wrong in not anticipating this from him however a star burns brightest before it burns out.
With that in mind, I think Briere is without a doubt a hall of fame player, will be a huge reason why the Flyers win a cup this year, and as a fan deserves my devotion and gratitude.
All that being said makes what I said about if it even happens, an amnesty buyout a very hard choice to make. Let's keep in mind the Flyers have the team they do because they made some hard decisions last summer. I really like having Briere on the team, but his cap hit is going to be tough going forward.
So yes I have adjusted my outlook on that. I really don't have to be right all the time it's not who I am. However if he's only going to play in the playoffs then I hope he doesn't mind being a healthy scratch during the regular season.

They can win without him.
Danny has a slight uptick in goals per 82 games in the playoffs, but it's negated by being even worse in his own end. He plays a more open-ice game in the playoffs and it translates to a few more goals, but also leads to just as many goals against.

I want to make something clear too, my desire to use an amnesty clause on Briere was never a hate based, evaluation. I just thought that his cap hit is too high for what he does.

Yep, but there's also a huge value to what he means to the guys in the dressing room that is immeasurable.

lol so tru
but actch with jvr and voracek, i don't think that line will be a liability because those two can hang onto the puck forever and jake is actually really good defensively, which has been such a beautiful surprise.

We have to hold onto jake, even if it means letting jagr walk.
It seems to me that we have the current playoffs series and a nice Game 1 Victory to chew on rather than Summer worries about contracts, caps and theoretical amensty issues.
If the cap continues to go up I'm not that worried. I think the Flyers have almost always been able to get or keep the players they really wanted. - JoeRussomanno
the cap is rumored to be in the low 70s starting july 1. only problem is once the new CBA is agreed to late summer/early fall, it could be back down to 55 or 60.
