INSANITY

Lu is restricting any future moves that will be made by tthe Leafs in the future .So next year you go get Bernier who will make 3 mil and has 14 career wins . You guys should write a book. this is gold.

His play has increased year over year...and he's not even come close to being in his prime.

And to your comment about him being a cherry picker...you clearly didn't watch a lot of leafs games...his two way game has massively improved since coming from Boston.

- Pen15

I've watched quite a lot thank you, NHL Center Ice is a wonderful thing, and if you mean two-way by standing at or near the blue line waiting for the puck then yeah, it's improved. It used to be he'd wait OUTSIDE your defensive zone for the puck, so I'll give him credit where credit is due. He's still a floater and I see no signs of that changing in the future. He has the hands and the hockey IQ, and if you ever got a center that can feed him the puck he'd challenge Stamkos for the Rocket Richard but come on... -10 +/- with 20:03 TOI? That's not the hallmark of a two-way forward. Even Kesler who admittedly had an off year stats wise was +11 with comparable TOI.

That is what I am trying to say... If a team trades for him it's basically like they are signing him as a free agent, 6 yrs 5.3 a year. Thats a big comittment, but trading valueable assests and taking on that contract for someone who hasnt exactly been great in the playoffs is hard to sell
- sbroads24

Fair enough point, but that's looking at things in a vacuum. Luongo is much better than anything coming on the open market. I think we can all agree that Lu is much more valuable than a Jeff Carter, who granted is 26, not 33, but has a ridiculously long term contract. Look what he fetched.

More valuable yes... But easier to trade no... It's just a hard situation if you are a GM trying to aquire LU. He is what a few teams need.. but if you trade for him and you give up some decent peices for him... He has to be "the Guy" hands down for 4-5 years, you have to stick with him

Why would St. Louis trade their two best goalies when both are happy with the situation there? Bernier possibly, Lindback hasn't proven he's capable of being a starter yet.

How much are you going to pay for them and please keep in mind that there are 10 teams looking for a goalie so please don't come back with a weak ass answer under 2.5 per.

St. Louis will trade one of their two...they won't be able to afford to keep both long term.

And Bernier & Lindback are unknown's....but I like the potential...and age...and CONTRACT.

Just curious, do u know how long luongo's term is?

U keep harping over and over that the dollar amount isnt bad, but convienently leave out the ten years.
U understand thats the issue right? Or no?

So again why would Bernier or Lindback chose TO ove SJ CHI TB EDM teams with more potential .The big question still is how much are you going to offer for these unknowns?

4-4.5mil in free agency, that's just under a million less than Luongo who's significantly better for longer than 1-3 seasons. Keep in mind that the going rate for goalies has been set by Philly's deal with Bryzgalov and that is the kind of money (and term) quality FA starters will be asking (and getting) from teams that sign them. Are you at all comfortable with saddling yourself with unknown potential for that much, for that long? Luongo's contract takes him through his 30's and because he's a goalie that is intensely competitive and like to practice harder than anyone, will likely not decline as much until he's reached the point where he's only going to be making a mil a season.

Bernier has 14 wins .

OPen your ears Luongo is 33 he will play until 39 .That is a 6 year contract 5.3 cap hit for a goalie who has played his best year in the last 3 years.

I know that but trying to explain to Leaf fans is sooooooooooooooooo hard .

The beauty of this is earlier Elliott Freedman say Berniers stock is dropping and he is coming back to Earth.

Some poor team will pay as you say 4 mil 4 years for an unproven goalie and get the shock of their life .Chi are loving their new deal with Crawford They were lucky though ,they only wasted 2.5 mil per .That's a bargain.

Thats the problem??? Oh i see!!
Im really not sure that canuck fans were aware why lu's value is so low.

Maybe if u explain over 5 million cap hit for ten more years for a 33 year old that the team doesnt really want anymore is not a very desirable asset.

I guess we'll just have to see how it plays out. My opinion is they get a top 6 or top 4 D and either decent prospect or highish draft pick.

Never said I don't like Luongo's cap hit...it's the term that makes it hard to stomach

And yes...If you're asking if I'd rather sign Lindback or Bernier to a 3yr deal for as much as Luongo makes vs. his term...I'd take Lindback or Bernier.
