I think it applies perfectly. It's quite the graphic term as well. Really drives the point home on how ugly that contract is.
Do u really want to argue semantics on adjectives? Or talk about hockey?
I'm for the latter.
When the grammar police start coming out, it's usually a sign of surrender.

Anyone think there’s a connection between Cody’s trade out of Van and Jordan Schroeder? Usually a team doesn’t trade a rookie centre (with skill and a high hockey IQ) if there’s nothing in the system to replace him.
Maybe the Canucks are really high on their prospects at centre… |

I sure hope so. I still remember how excited I was when Schroeder fell to them that year. |

I think Schroeder and other rookies get a shot at the roster this year.
Will be fun to see. |

I agree with you and Josh above. It will be fun to see as long as the Canucks have a coach that works well with youth.
Get a coach that provides encouragement and instills confidence. Not a coach that provides punishment and instills doubt. |

You're spot on. I think they felt Schroeder would be a better option at third line because of his defensive game and the fact cody wasn't happy playing in that position. I really like the thought of Schroeder, Jensen and Kassian being a formidable trio moving forward. |

I really like it as well. I just hope the coaching staff feels the same way. Speaking of coaching, has anyone heard from AV yet? |

Ian,
Gillis has zero leverage with Luongo. Any GM who gives "equal player value" is a fool and should be fired. The best Gillis can probably do is unload the contract.
Case in point, Brian Campbell got the Blackhawks Rostislav Olesz. I think both parties got a 'good' deal— the Hawks lost the contract and cap hell and Florida got their number 1 defenseman, such as he is. There could be a sucker out there who will chump up for Luongo, but lacking a legitimate market for his services, meaning demand from mutiple teams to deal for him, any GM who does so is an abject fool.
And I don't think such a market exists.
Chicago would never deal Seabrook, or even say Niklas Hjalmarsson, for him (with that contract). Just won't happen.
Good goalie? Sure. Better actually than what he has been made out to be. But he also comes with much baggage and uncertainty.
Any team that deals for him has to consider the possibility that he will not 'work out"with them within a couple of years and then they have an albatross deal on their hands.
Vancouver has a lot of other tradeable assets. Unfortunately, Lu is not at this point one that should net much return. - John Jaeckel
Talking common sense on here doesn't go over well......... You'll shock there systems if you give it to them all at once.
It's best to speak their language like "Yeah I believe Luongo should get something like Eberle and Edmontons first overall pick for Luongo"
Once you've gotten their attention, then you slowly ease them into reality as to not scare them away....... |

It would be nice if one of these two could move to the left side (I think Jensen may have played a bit on the LW while in Oshawa). Two wingers with size and skill on the same line would make life hell for opposing D. |

If you would pay attention to the majority of Canuck posters on here, and ignore the obvious joke proposals from certain members, I think you'd realize that very few are expecting anything close to that type of return for Lou. But I guess then you wouldn't be able to be a total a$$hole, which is obviously your goal here. |

Holy clever! Impressive stuff bud.
Now back to the issue....
Luongo wont fetch much in return cause his value due to that abortion like contract is almost nil. |

Logic and reason?? How dare you?
Ians threads have no place for this.
Forget the facts, luongo has alot of value cause canuck fans said so. |

It's like other teams past over-payments for players has facilitated that train of thought. |

Cause Cloutier's blogs are a pillar of common sense. Montreal's 1st and Subban for the Oilers 1st overall, anyone? |

And he has no or little value because other fans say so.
Hmmm a bit of an impasse. |

No, Luongo has no value becasue the majority of other fans, dislike the Canucks, Canucks fans and Luongo.
Which facts are you refering to? Luongo's career stats or other "unmovable" contracts like Gomez, Campbell, Carter ect.? |

We have really good forwards coming up, might not be the superstar quality of the Sedins or as dominant as Kesler can be, but they are going to be able to eventually replace them with different skillsets. Again, what we lack in our system are two things, one was addressed by the Hodgson trade (a puck-moving defenseman that can QB the PP (Gragnani)) and the other we definitely either need to trade for or draft and develop a #1 right-handed right side stud defenseman. I'd be happy if we could get a top 5 - top 10 pick and pick one of the top defensemen available, all of whom are projected to be a top D pairing defenseman. |

No. Because it's common sense that the market for a guy who has his contract wont be big.
Not to mention the nucks clearly dealing from a position of weakness.
U dont want to pay 2 goalies? U want good value? Deal schneider instead.
Interested?... I didnt think so. And everybody knows this. |

Lots of good 2nd-4th line talent coming down the pipeline, and some solid 4-6 defensemen (maybe a diamond in the rough with Mcnally), not to mention the Canucks should be set in goal for the future. Hopefully Gillis has enough time before the Sedins retire to address the top line.
I've got June 1st crossed on my calendar—picking up a prospect of Schultz's caliber without giving anything up would be huge. |
