Best part. Burke doesn't even know what Murray's offer was. It's not like Burke has the time or the patience to listen to the offer and think about it. Screw that! Just cut the guy off, mid offer and send him packing.
And the look on Nonis' face at 2:13. Priceless. The look of "you didn't even hear his offer?!" - Unholy_Goalie
I'm pretty sure they had gone back and forth a few times...BB submitted the final offer...Murray should've either said yes or no....he was Richarding him around.

The Infallible Pope Burke knows best.
Just like Napoleon was the best coach ever. Better than Tippett. And Hitchcock. Right?

Cowen has more offensive potential than Schenn and would have made a formidable pairing. Plus whatever else they would have got for trading down. - Unholy_Goalie
Probably, but at the time the team had the need for a forward and major skill, as much as people poop on him Kadri has the best hands of that draft, can he do poop with it? Harder to say. They gambled on skill over Cowen who at the time offered defensive skill and physicality, like a lot of big guys he has found he can shoot the puck well, though it hasn't translated yet.
At 5 if you had Grigorenko and Murray left, who would you take? The inconsistent newcomer to the Q who won rookie of the year and shows flashes of Malkin and flashes of Semin, or the consistent captain who could be a Ryan Suter. That would be a hard choice, add to it the fact Murray would be gone and add another of the highly touted dmen and you get a true quandry.

That's easy. Murray.
I'd rather have too many defenders, who know what they're doing.
You know, "building from the net out" as one Pope Burke once promised and has yet to deliver.

I excluded knight because he wouldnt be in the line up just yet. - Mapleleafs_91
Brandon Saad would.
Might also consider the fact that had they kept the Knight pick, they could have had a chance at Christian Thomas (son of Steve) or Devante Smith-Pelly, the type of hitting power forward Burke loves so much.

Lots of opportunities. Lost. - Unholy_Goalie
Man can we just admit it, leafs (frank)ed up big time, and we DO NOT know how to draft

I'm sorry...how'd it go down in UG land...
Why don't you tell us what the majority of the Penguins core is thinking? Last I checked they were going to all give hometown discounts because they want to win together...
Some people have already admitted that. Others are in denial.
Problem with the Leafs lately hasn't been that they can't draft as much as they can't keep all their picks much less add to the ones they already own. - Unholy_Goalie

Devane is the next Wendel Clark. Couldn't pass on that. - Unholy_Goalie
Speaking of mediocrity....
I find it ironic that you always call us out on supporting it...yet you idolize two players who never won a championship...isn't that kind of the pot calling the kettle black?

Doug Gilmour won a championship so you're mistaken there. No big deal though.
Aside from maybe Roberts and Sundin, Clark and Gilmour are the only two marquee players this franchise has seen in the last 25 years who have shown a winning spirit and had the talent to provide success.
The avatar has a dual meaning. To show that as good as they were, they weren't quite good enough and thus, the future should be planned much more carefully to see that the next time around, the team succeeds where it has failed in the past.
