Instead we have Giroux, Couturier AND Schenn. Not to mention Nick Cousins coming up through the organization. Things could get awfully crowded though. - NickTheKid87
Centers are like defensemen, can never have too many. Cousins will be a nice 3rd/4th liner with grit and chippiness. Schenn might end up on a wing. |

Not a huge fan of Schenn on the wing but if it helps the team then I'm all for it. |

Why not? He certainly has the prototypical speed and skating ability. |

Not sure what Cap issues. All they had to do to sign Bryzgalov was trade Versteeg. They signed Jagr with Leino's money.
I knew the Carter trade was coming, because a change had to be made, that's not a knock on Carter. But when they traded Richards I was like wow! I didn't like his attitude in interviews towards the end and really felt he didn't leave it all on the ice in last year's playoffs. But I thought perhaps he was hurt and the media was just making poop up to get under his skin. That trade said a lot to me. So yes, I was defending Richards despite my concerns with him I can't back that up because I didn't get involved in all this internet sports talk stuff like I am now until after that day. Actually heard from some acquiantances b.c they heard it through the web and debated with them. What you are saying now reminds me very much of what I was saying to them. Gotta admit the web is a wealth of information that isn't always true but it's good to read. - JoeRussomanno
They lacked flexibility for the future with the Cap, if they had signed Bryzgalov and kept both players. There would have been little room to add to the team. Those Cap issues include having two players signed to franchise player deals that the had second thoughts on.

I agree with that point your making also.
Here's what I see. I think Schenn is going to be a hell of a player in the future. We've seen glimpses of that this year. We've seen what Voracek is becoming. Simmonds is a solid gritty Forward who's great in puck battles, and on the forecheck, who is becoming a better goal scorer. Couturier, do I need to say anything about him in the future? Is that better then having Carter and Richards here, regardless of how good anyone thinks they were here? Skip the media nonsense and from a pure Hockey stand point. It's a no brainer.
I love this team. I don't care what happens this year. - MJL
I completely agree. Now let's hope they win tonight Abd continue their march to the SCF! |

I wasn't suggesting otherwise. But Holmgren saw a lack of flexibility, and did what he had to to turn that into potential, for both today and tomorrow. - BulliesPhan87
There was definitely a lack of Flexibility. But if you aren't worried about getting the results you desire, why worry about said flexibility? |

It makes them a much better team then having a gimpy IK in the line up.
Not better then a healthy Kovy.
Dangerous game tonight. |

I think he will be effective offensively up the middle. He has great vision and a good shot plus he's very strong defensively which would also be helped if he stayed at center. |

I love what Homer has done. I was in absolute shock when those 2 trades went down. However, I knew G would be very good. Not this good. We still had Danny. When we drafted Coots I almost shat myself. I couldn't see how this kid caould fall that far. I was holding out hope for Landeskog. |

It was something of a 'now or never' situation when it came to that decision. Both players, I think, had restrictive clauses in their contracts, and for each year of their prime we kept them their trade value diminished. A case can be made that the playoffs disappointment last year influenced the decision, but that's in the realm of supposition. |

The point still remains they didn;t have to trade both players. At the time I didn;t want them to trade Richards. I heard it rumored to happen, the reasoning behind it was because of Richards feuding with the coaches, dividing the locker room etc. We know he didn;t get along with Pronger when he first came here. There was a pattern there. There's no denying that. |

Not sure what you mean with Briere. My thing was I thought he was done. No I didn't think he would be this valuable this year. yes I was wrong for stating that. I don't recall that being a media driven thing. - JoeRussomanno
It's not just in terms of the media. It's about bias. And applying different standards and not being objective depending on who the player is.

If this is what it's coming down to in Nashville then I guess we'll be seeing Suter hit free agency with little regrets. The team overpaid for Goose(who they now have to re-sign) so they have no 1st round pick, AK46 is a bust, they brought problem child Radulov back, and got Hal Gill. Ok, that last one was a good move but seesh, I can easily see this all come crashing down on them. |

No team ever has to trade a player. It's always about making a choice. Yes, I can deny it. As did the Flyers, the players, and Holmgren. But the media's word was taken over them.
Joe, I'm already not liking myself here, I have to move on. I've many times stated that the board should move on from Richards and Carter. I've let myself get back into it here. and I'm wrong for doing that in the middle of a playoff series.
