Neither would I. This team has a bright future. But the difference for me is that I don't subscribe to the mantra that if you love the trades and the players they obtained, then you can't like Richards and Carter. Or that you have to criticize them to like the trade. Sometimes I wonder if they're quitters and partiers, and all these bad things, how did the Flyers get such good value for them?

good point. to me, it just seemed like they settled in and didn't "care" as much as they should.

I don't think the Blues have a prayer.

Just my opinion, but they look overwhelmed last night.

I never count a team out until they have FOUR losses. The Blues and Preds can go on a winning streak at any point in their series. They both play good defense (not so much this round) and have good goaltending (struggling as well) but they still have life.

Homer has done a fantastic job. I don't see any other GM in this league with the stones to pull the deals he did this past summer.

Really hard to believe that he isn't a finalist for GM of the Year. The moves he made took a lot of balls. He completely reversed the direction of the team, after signing both player to long term deals. He put himself at risk and his job on the line in doing so, and risking making himself look foolish. Because he felt that was the best thing to do. And then to have it work out and the decisions he made to be validated by the results. I don't know how that doesn't qualify.

I was stunned that he wasn't recognized, but as he says, he's interested in one trophy. Nice to see him get props from the media

Thanks Jsaq!

I never go to that site so I would never have seen this article without your link.

Homer has brass ones and deserves credit for not sitting back.

In 2 trades he made his team deeper, more cap friendly, younger and better. I guess you could say in 3 moves, gotta count Bryz in the teams major off-season moves.

Any difference wasn't due to Richards quitting. He was a great player here, and so was Carter. I love this team and the moves made. But I'd take either player back in heartbeat. Not in love with their contracts. But both players are quality players.

It's not over til it's over, but la and phx look to have the upper hand in each of their series. I can see Nashville making a come back, but not sure St Louis can. Pietrangelo is hurt and Quick is playing extremely well. It's not over, but not looking good for St Louis, IMO.

I really don't get the animosity against Richards and Carter. It's mind boggling to me. I wish them well, and hope they do well. I would love to see a Flyers/Kings final.

I would take both players back but not be reversing the trades. Carter I didn't have a problem with at all. He is a very good player.

I did have a problem with Richards his last year. It may be speculative on my part but it seemed like he coasted at times and seemed disinterested.
Maybe he was trying to save energy for the playoffs and the turn it on switch wasn't good enough.
I don't think he put his full energy into off season training. I have no way of knowing and could be talking out my behind.
As far as the partying thing, they are young guys so I don't care about that part of the speculation. I would hope every NHLer is mature enough to know that the team comes before the party.

If LA takes out the Blues which seems likely and the yotes take the preds, that will be a great goaltending battle for the conference finals out west.

Getting either of those 2 back would be a Lindros-esque soap opera, imo.

One of the tee shirt sites is selling tee shirts that do a play on rapper Lil B, who calls himself the Based God, using Giroux instead. Lame joke

Agreed that Homer did a masterful job in trading Richards and Carter with the return he got, not to mention bringing in Jagr. The problem is many see the Bryzgalov signing/contract as nullifying all the good Homer did in the offseason due to the goalies inconsistent play and his age. Such a shame to not be nominated, but if the Flyers win the cup this year it won't really matter!

I will tell you, I am VERY happy that the Rangers lost last night. I hope that series goes 7 with the Caps winning. Worst case scenario was that the Rangers walk through that series, and we barely get by NJ (which I still say goes 6 games).

This slight pales in comparison when Homer brought the league's last place team that he acquired 8 games into the 2006-07 season to the ECF the next year.

He wasn't named a finalist in 2008 either (Bruce Boudreau won it with Guy Carbonneau, Montreal and Mike Babcock, Detroit as the other finalists).
