But the Devils forced that frustration, that's what I'm getting at. The Devils are forcing the errant passes or rushed passes. It's the same thing the Flyers did in the last two periods of game 1, you can say the Devils played terribly and you can say the Flyers played great, but the way the Flyers played forced the Devils to play the way they did. - _Zippy_
I'll give NJ that. They did cause some of that frustration. But there were too many times, NJ would be going off on a change or not forechecking, and the Flyers passes were horrible. Not crisp, a little long and they were their own culprit from getting a rush up the ice.
NJ PK really frustrated the Flyers. |

They did press Giroux on PP tonight. Were determined that he wouldn't beat them. Kudos to that. - bgratch
There's little things they do that go underlooked. If you realized, there were times when one PKer would skate from the sidewall all the way around to the other sidewall and the other Devils PKer would stand in the middle of the ice. You give them no options. The Devils consistently pushed the point man back, making the passes longer and in more awkward positions and made them unfit for one-timers. |

I think that can't be understated. They did overpass and a lot of passes weren't crisp. So many times, I felt they had to reach to control a pass even when there wasn't NJ pressure of forecheck. Or they had to pivot because it was received on the backhand which prohibited a flowing rush up the ice. Bounces didn't go their way at times and I think they became frustrated. - sulshawn
the effort an energy were there through 30 minutes....the execution wasn't great. a lot of bouncing pucks, etc, but the devils defending had some to do with this for sure. what i've noticed in the 2nd period is the devils early on were just firing at the net and keeping it simple, not overcreating. as the period is wearing on, they are winning the puck battles and getting ridiculous chances around the net. flyers d coverage has clearly broken down. |

No, but the way the Devils stifled the Flyers had A LOT to do with those stats. - _Zippy_
I don't disagree with that.
Nice game. On to the next one. |

Yea their coverage broke down a lot. A lot of players out of position. Sometimes I thought we had d-pairings that didn't play with each other before. Forwards were horrible too defensively. |

Teams have been doing that all season. Jake always has a ton of space on the point. They need to get it to him and open things up. |

this.
what's nice about it is since i know the outcome i can really watch what's happening instead of praying for goals and a win. i've never enjoyed a period where the flyers only got 1 shot on goal (taking 19 minutes on a delayed penalty call no less) more in my life. it was entertaining. bryz was great. flyers were just off everytime they got an opportunity. devils have played a great game through 40. i think marty got a jump on his taxes in that 2nd frame. |

the forwards were not very good helping out. a lot of watching, getting caught on the wrong side of the puck, and enormous gaps between players, particularly through the neutral zone. it got worse as the period wore on. |

A lot of panic with the puck, forcing plays. At one point G drop passed to a Devil when he probably should have shot and at that I just gave up. Maybe they all did, too. Lost battles. I feel like the only guys who left me with a good feeling were Bryz and Wellwood. |

when there wasn't panic there was nonchalance.
I can't remember all the times I saw 2 Flyers within five feet of the puck just looking at each other, and a Devil would come racing in from 30 feet away and take control.
just an abysmal effort ... and result. |

It was one of those games when there always seemed to be at least 2 Devils on the ice for every Flyer. Disappointing. |
