That would just be an outstanding matchup. Just a dream come true. - MJL
Homer, the NHL, nor the hockey gods could have planned such a sweet match up. Flyers looking to prove they made the right choice in putting the team under Giroux and his youn teammates while Richards and carter try to prove it was a mistake to trade them. Throw in some heavy hitting and bryz vs quick and you have one he'll of a series. Not to mention the man who Lavi replaced is an assistant coach. Then there's hextall. hard to stop finding connections between these two clubs. Our beat writers won't have to do a damn thing for story lines
Obviously we are a ways from the cup, but it's fun to get excited. I feel confident about tonight. I don't think the flyers are going to let another team out work them long enough to take a series, not with Giroux at the helm. |

Maybe, but Timonen was a top free agent signing who is/was a #1 defenseman. And let's face it, Carle isn't what Timonen was in his prime when he first came here. - MJL
this is true and seriously even I can't grasp what Timonen was at that time b/c that was a bad time for me as a fan due to work I missed all but like 8 games from 07-'10. Had to rely on the local papers and people at work to tell me what was going on. Carle is only 27 so the probability that he takes another step in his career is still very much there. |

They really aren;t the centerpieces in that run though. I'd say the Kings would be where they are without those two. It seems like, stoll, Brown, Kopitar, Quick etc. are the hub of that team, not Richards and Carter. Carter just got his first goal of the playoffs last night. - JoeRussomanno
Richards and Carter are 2 and 4th on the Kings in Forward icetime per game. I'd say that makes them part of the centerpiece. Is Voracek, Hartnell, etc, not part of the centerpeices. And would the Flyers be where they are without them? It's a team Joe. You can't arbitrarily say they would be where they would with out two key players.

They are looking like a formidable foe should the Flyers meet them in the SCF. I think that would be a great series to watch. |

Hartnell is my favorite Flyer but I wouldn't say he's been a centerpiece no. I think he's bringing something to the table for sure, just as those other guys in La but the three of them aren't the defining pieces, no. Voracek has as many points as Carter and Richards put together. So I would say he's a little more valuable. Hartnell though doesn;t just score he does a lot of little things like agitate the other team. Richards does a little bit of that too but they're both secondary players in these playoffs. Also without Quick the Kings aren;t even in the playoffs. |

I would love it. The kings are catching postseason fever. If Quick continues his strong play, they have a great shot. |

Not sure what that means. I think Richards has always played with heart. I think Richards the player gets a bad wrap because Richards the captain wasn't what we expected. I think he will have a strong career in LA. |

6-1 against the 2 best teams in the West so far. They have the potential to knock out the top 3 seeds on their way to the SCF ala Calgary in 2004. |

Is points the only determining factor? And do you really think the Flyers aren't going to need Hartnell if they're going to make a serious run at the Cup. This year and in the future? Carter and Richards are all situations players for the Kings. Both log big minutes and play on the PP and the PK. How in the world are players who do that, secondary players? It's a team, and every player matters. Just look at the Flyers and see the contributions that every player makes. Such as a player like Wellwood. And the quality minutes he is giving them. You need all hands on deck in the playoffs.

it was play on the ton of heart phrase. If you are carrying a ton, which as we know is impossible, then you would be tired. Sorry, i'm bad at deadpan. But yes he can when he wants to. |

If this series wasn't headed back to LA I'd think the blues had a chance, but I dont see the kings dropping two in a row, especially at home. I doubt st Louis would be able to come back from 3-1. |

Hi - funmaster18
Howdy, dressed for the game I see. |

Game 2 should be the focus, folks. Not the SCF.
Phoenix looks like a real threat out in the West too. Who says the Kings get past them. |
