For the uninformed could you explain further? - RickJ
I don't have any personal information and am regurgitating a general feeling on what I've read here and elsewhere; that McD has his hands in some of the hockey operations moves, be it be trades, or not trading certain guys.
I think JJ wrote a couple times about McD trying to influence the hockey side of things because of how he wants to market the team. |

yep! i heard the same. when you think about it, garza, demp(when he's healthy) maholm & samardjzia ain't that bad of a rotation, hopefully wither volsted, wells or travis wood grabs that 5th spot! just need more homers or a team to say "we need a DH we'll take sori!"
lahair in left, jackson in center, i'm okay with dejesus in right!
sorry munchkin lovers but tony campana will be nothing more than a late inning D replacement and pinch runner down the road! 600 at bats, 0 homeruns and will hit around 1.90, 2.10, 5th OF'r thats about it! - wonthecup10
Yup, cuz the last time I checked ya can't steal 1st...
On the SP's don't be surprised any of them are moved notably before the NWT deadline if ... the price is right. |

You mean a dropped strike 3? That play still mystifies me how the Halo's could be so stupid. But hey, it worked, eh? Not an actual steal though. |

Is that scored as E2 or a wild pitch? |

Let me be clear on this:
My sense is that personnel decisions with the Hawks tend to require numerous stamps of approval. That is not surprising or too unusual.
However, I think it is safe to also assume that Tallon's independent, more personal style rubbed McDonough the wrong way. And the Hawks do also have one of the more crowded front offices, if not the most, in the NHL.
There are supposedly larger meetings held throughout the year to discuss personnel plans and I believe McDonough is involved in these.
So . . .
When you also consider the amount of money the team—at McDonough's direction and design— has invested in marketing its brand, built entirely on the individual personae and other "storylines" of a specific group of players, then it is fair to assume that his input on player personnel decisions would be colored by that.
I don't know if Blunk, for another non-hockey example, is involved in the personnel meetings. If he is, there is another guy who might be influenced by marketing investments, etc.

No offense taken.
Over the last five seasons since moving to the AHL, Rockford has made the playoffs three out of five years. I guess I can't complain about that. - EKolb13

Gibson's homer was my favorite at bat of all time (seeings as how I've never seen a Cubs homer in a WS game) - all or nothing, homer or out.

One handed...on a bad leg...and pinch hitting....Gibby willed the Dodgers to that win.

I think your logic is pretty much spot on, especially from the Pens perspective. I just hate, hate, hate the extension Stan signed Sharp to, and would do just about anything to get rid of it. Huge overpayment. Huge. The very reason the Pens (and others) wouldn't want that contract is the same reason it should never have been tendered. Too much $, too many years. I know some (maybe you included) have argued that he's being paid in part based on past contributions. That may work in a cap free world, but with the cap firmly in place, it's a bad way to run a team. - Ogilthorpe2

Nice point...believe he wore 15 a lot in junior. |

Jim Nill. Interesting.
Doubt the changes would be that sweeping.
My info. this AM is that coaching and scouting vacancies (present and future) might be filled by employees of teams still alive in the playoffs - John Jaeckel
FYI, Jim Nill is not leaving Detroit because of family reasons. He was offered to be part of the GM interview process in MTL and declined because of those issues. |

For the record, Maguire said that Jim Nill passed on the GM opportunity in Montreal based on a family related matter that would not allow him to commit to taking over the position. I don't remember any other details but he made it sound like right now, Nill isn't going anywhere. - Lohaus

Well, Dale Hunter coached Kane and Bolland in London and every player who ever played for him say nothing but good things.
Also lots of speculation that Hunter wont be returning to Washington next season.
Which is weird to me, he's got that team finally playing like they should have been all along. |

You know I won't.
Take a look at what the Syracuse Crunch did the lat 6 weeks of season after Trent Yawney was brough in...They actually made the playoffs. - Al
When Keith won the Norris he gave a lot of credit to Trent Yawney for his development. |

that talk was in and around the last couple of weeks of the season, likely with the assumption that the Caps were going to miss the playoffs. Now that he has won a round and giving it to the Rangers more than most people figured they would, I see his job safe in Washington. The thing I like about him is he'll do it his way and you're either on board, or you can watch. Doesn't matter what the name is on the back or the letter on the front. I had no use for Dale as a player, but he's always been a results guy as a coach. It'd be a mistake to let him go. I'd rather see about takers for Ovie first, to be honest. |

Either wild pitch or passed ball, depending upon the pitch IIRC. A passed ball isn't the same as an error on the catcher, although they count the same for fielding % purposes. I never understood that, why not just call it an error? |

Its because it is considered part of pitching and not part of fiedling. |

This is it....I fell asleep at the computer writing a final and when I woke up this roster was on my screen . Once I wiped the drool from the desk, I couldn't believe how awesome this all was! Which means they'll sign O'Donnell and Pisani and call it a day. But a boy can dream.
Trade Hjammer and Stalberg to NJ for Clarkson.
Trade Bolland, Saad, a prospect like Pirri and a pick to Dallas for Ott.
Dump Frolik somewhere.
Sign Suter, Stoll, Carkner, Slater, Mayers, and Bollig.
Cap goes up to $68000000
