Hey JJ,
On the last board where you asked us to be the Hawks GM's I suggested the Hawks make a deal involving Bolland + Hammer to SJ for Big Joe...then go after Suter. Hey, what do I know!! - SAVOIRFAIRE

al nice writeup
if danault is ready for the nhl he better weigh at least 190 pounds so he is not another one of our smurfs
if the hawks trade bolland and nick h they better get physical big players that can skate in return - molly2522
The Hawks website lists him at 6'0" and 184. Hopefully he can fill out some this summer. |

Al,
How much of the hype surrounding Morin do you think is due to the fact he was pretty much the return for Buff? Is Stan pumping his tires to keep the illusion that trade was anything other than a salary dump? |

Almost always an Organization inflates the value of prospects...
Let's face it the Hawks had to dump ready made quality NHL players...The hope would be two get at least a couple of NHL players in return.
As far as Morin I wrote a snippet on him today...Scouts tell me he is a NHL player but 'm not sure if bottom six or top six...And he plays kind of reckless and has been hurt often.
There is a reason Morin and Pirri were not brought up this year even though there were injuries... |

I don't know. It would solidify the top 6 would two elite centres...both of whom are strong at the dot...it would (should) help the PP as Big Joe is an excellent set up man...I guess the only "risk" is settling for Kruger at 3C as the shut down guy. I agree Big Joe probably peaked a few years ago but he's still a very effective player, he's got good size, he's gotta be real hungry for a Cup...and despite his big cap hit his contract only has 2 years left in it.
I absolutely love Bolland and it would kill me to see him go but as JJ and others have pointed out the Hawks have to be in the mindset that the window for another SC run is within the next 3-5 years. Say what you want about Tallon but at least he recognized the opportunity and went for it and for that I'll always be grateful. I hope Bowman Jr. has the guts to do the same. |

Derek Rose - walking without crutches out to center court, back to the bench....
Shoot, if he was a hockey player, he'd be playing. |

For what it's worth, the more I see of Morin, the more I get this gut feeling that he's a third line winger with scoring upside. |

I guess I'm late to the party on this one.
I agree with you, somewhat. As it stands right now, I'm not buying the whole Suter thing either. At least not anything beyond both the Hawks and Suter possibly having some interest in each other.
Before I can really believe in Suter coming to Chicago, either Bowman is going to have to move some salary out first, or the cap is going to go up another 3-4 million dollars. |

Does Bowman have the huevos to reshuffle the deck? That to me is the first question. |

Radulov and Kostitsyn - where do they think they are, Moscow?
Can't stay out until 4AM in Phoenix without getting caught.
Of course, the way Radulov has played, Trotz may have framed him. |

i personnelly think this increase is realistic just on the basis of the u s federal reserve doing quantitative easing 3 and devalueing the dollar even further due to weak economic growth

I posed this question on JJ's other thread (sorry if some of you already saw it)
Why haven't we heard an announcement yet on the releasing of Mike Kitchen? I think this is the easiest move they can make at this time in the offseason.
Are they waiting for the Finals to be over with so as to not take focus away from the teams who are still playing? |

I first thought Suter to Chicago was absurd, but I looked at my second favorite site capgeek (JJ's blog being first ).
Could the Hawks package Hammer and Stalberg for a top six power forward? Steve Ott or David Clarkson perhaps? (Although NJ may have cap issues if they try to resign Parise)
So this trade, plus signing Suter at $7MM, plus 4th line center, 6thDman, and Bollig as 13th forward and Olsen as 7th D. Kane would be 2nd line center, but Ott could take faceoffs while playing wing.
End up JUST slightly over last years cap. Gotta assume cap goes up at least a little bit?
Yes its a lot of money on the D, but the goalies are still very cheap compared to the rest of the league so why not shore up the D.
Very interesting to say the least.

Difference is Ladd wasn't a top six forward here and never played on the power play. The Jets made him the Captain and gave him top line minutes and benefits...
All a matter of perception.
Bollands replacement may already be Hawks property...
I wrote about Danualt being close and some others from Rkfrd today...
A plan must surface, Rocky needs to lead the way to another Cup for Hawks. Today on Fox Chicago:http://bit.ly/InWy9d
@AlCimaglia - Al
There you go... Ladd and Buff never get the money they got if they stayed here. Especially Ladd. Buff deserves the minutes and spot he got with Atlanta/Winnepeg. Q was too clueless to use him here consistently in either a top 6 roll or top 4 blue line. Hence again... they don't get the money they got per your point Al. I think Ladd gets around 3.5 mil and Buff 4 - 4.5 mil if they stayed. |

That's alot to give up. I also don't think they trade Weber to a team they play so much. He would go East I would think... |

Well maybe its over pay, you could change Bolland out or the pick to be lower, but its going to cost $7mil+ for Weber a season. Id love to have Suter but Weber would be the top prize. If Bolland is included they can shop for another #2 center but stacking up the D is the priority especially with management looking like their going to give Crawford another season. |
