If we knew that answer we would be coaching with Lavi. I'm trying to look at the positives but there wasn't much from yesterday's game. Effort is the biggest factor in tomorrows game - stveshdy
It was pretty obvious that Laviolette didn't have an answer to the issue either.

Honestly I was watching the game and waiting for the Flyers to turn it up a level but that never happened. They just played like it was a regular season game. There was no energy and they just allowed the Devils to do whatever they wanted. The Devils are a solid club but there is noway the Flyers should go almost an entire period before even getting a shot on net. |

You seem particularly troubled about the game. They in trouble? |

No, I'm really not troubled by the game. I'm just really trying to figure out and understand the dynamic of how a game like that happens. How an entire team, save the goaltender is flat for a playoff game.
And secondly, while I firmly believe that the Devils are a good team that is more then capable of beating the Flyers in this Series. I still feel the Flyers will win the Series. I think that emotion plays a large part in sports. And the Devils had emotion on their side, and not having Kovalchuk was a factor in that. I think that tide changes in game 3 and the Flyers will take over and win the Series.

I really thought that after that horrendous 2nd period, with the Flyers still escaping with the lead. That would come out ready to play in the 3rd. Just didn't happen.

I have to think part of it is that it's so easy to get juiced for the Pens. Pretty big switch from them to the Devils. Not that they don't have exciting players to watch, but they are a relatively boring team, even with their more offensive style. Kovalchuk is one that helps them not be so boring and he was out last night.

They don't play a boring style anymore. These arent the devils of yesteryear. They may have a bunch of retreads that make it hard to believe their out working us. They forechecking hard. They have a forward attacking deep flushing our dman out before we can setup to rush. The flyers were the boring team to watch last night. Full marks for the devils. I do agree the devils are harder for the flyers to hate |

I read this being said about the Devils. But I don't see what is so boring about the Devils. They play a style similar to most teams in the League. I understand the rivalry factor isn't as strong with the Devils as it is the Pens. Maybe the Flyers need to develop some hatred quickly. Maybe get one of the Devils to tell the press that he doesn't like them. That he doesn't like any of them. The Flyers that is.

Emotion and hustle aside. What do the flyers need to change of anything going into the next game? Dump and chase? Carry in? I thought the flyers D just wasn't aggressive enough on the pinch. I'm really not too worried. The flyers had nothing and yet were in it into 8 minutes left.
G's line had been incredibly ineffective |

last night's game was awful. To me they played worse the the 10-3 beating from the Pens. They will come back I have no doubt, it would be better with a 2-0 lead. I truly believe that the devils are no match for the Flyers if they actually play. They looked like they were skating in sand.
This series goes to 6 games at the most. |

Well some positives is Bryz found his way out of the woods, the Flyers can't play any worse, and the Devils won't score more then 4 goals the rest of the series.

That game had zero to do with strategy or systems play. In terms of that, the Flyers don't have to change anything.

Was it me or did it seem like the Flyers were having a hard time staying on their skates? Weird game last night, the team was flatout terrible. |

I agree for the most part. There were seveal occasions were the Flyers attempted to control the puck down-low but were simply out-numbered by Devils. However, I think this issue kind of sorts itself out with a better overall effort.
This Flyers team is very good at attacking the puck. Last night, the Devils wanted the puck out of their zone more then the Flyers wanted to keep it in, plain and simple.
A better overall effort is needed, and I think that is coming in game 3.
edit: Bryz silenced a lot of critics yesterday. If this team AND Bryz get going at the same time, theres little stopping them IMO. |

I want to issue a sincere apology to not only my fellow posters here on Hockeybuzz, but to Flyers fans everywhere.
What transpired last night- that debacle...the horrendousness that was game 2- is a product of my oversight. I worked until 9, and- therefore, didn't get to firstrowsports until the about 5 minutes had gone by in the third period.
With this said, I was not able to listen to Led Zeppelin during intermissions last night. Hell, I wasn't even here for an intermission. I take full responsibility for last night's trainwreck, and although I'm not asking for forgiveness, I do ask for your understanding.
In the coming games, I can assure all of you that copious amounts of Led Zeppelin will be blasting into my ears, drowning out the clowns in both the announcers' booth and the intermission report.
Again, I ask for your understanding. Any forgiveness bestowed upon me is merely a blessing.
Sincerely,
Matt

Just go back to what was working. I think Laviolette counting out Simmonds and Schenn right from the start of this series, based on how they ended the last series. Since the new year has started, Schenn has been everything I had hoped he would be. Simmonds has gone above and beyond all season long. Both have struggled in the last half of the Pens series but it's a new series now.

i wouldn't mind seeing jagr moved off the top line or maybe have voracek double shift here and there with hartnell and giroux a bit. jagr appears to be laboring and isn't doing much at either end.
i thought simmonds and schenn were both better last night than they have been for the last couple of games. |
