I think it was as much because of how well the Devils played than it was how poorly the Flyers played. One was a cause of the other and visa versa.
The Devils took the Flyers out of their game. Sometimes getting frustrated and coming up against a team that really has your number on that particular day can be mistaken for lack of effort. It happens to teams with a lot of young players. They will bounce back. Lavy knows what he is doing, peeling the paint off the walls in counterproductive.
I think he went in there and told them this is a good learning experience for you guys. Today you learned that there are no cupcakes in the playoffs, that if you don't bring it shift after shift, you can be sure your opponent will be. You cant let what they do take you off your game plan. Impose yourself on the game and make them adjust to you. You all got to experience what happens to a team when it is done to you. Now you have another lesson, have learned to recognize it, and now you will know how to counter it. Come back in game three, make the adjustments inside yourselves. No go home.
If I were Lavy, that's what I would have said. - MBFlyerfan
As much as I agree with many of the valid points you raise, I also thought this team would have learned that lesson already. Up 3 games to 0 on the Pens and they were whooped 10-3 in game 4. Not sure a team should need any more eye openers than that!

Last night was not a yell at the guys and throw things in the locker room game.
I agree that Lavi uses the game as a teaching tool and moves on.
There is a degree of the flyers looked bad because the devils were on their A game. The devils are not the worlds super power of a hockey team that despite the flyers best efforts and A game is what we saw from them the 2nd and 3rd periods.

Great write up on a horrible game. What was amazing to me was at the start of the third, We were leading 1-0 and I felt like we were down by four goals even at that point. the building, the fans and the team were all dead. |

Fact is I brought it up when the game was 1 - 0 and 1-1 last night on twitter.
the Devils played a better game then the Flyers, they deserved to win. I have never, if you paid attention, sugar coated a loss. After the first period, the sat back. |

Devils played a pretty good, tight defensive game last night. Something the flyers never faced so far in the playoffs. Flyers will have to adjust their game accordingly.
If they rely too much on the PP, they'll be in trouble if the Devils play a disciplined, defensive system against them.. |

True, but sometimes a lesson needs to be pounded home more than once. And if they do advance, Ill bet it happens again.
This game had a slightly different feel than that 10-3 debacle because Bryz was playing great. So I think that contributed to them maybe not recognizing it as being the same situation. I think they really thought that coming out in the third they would just crank it up and win it. The Devils had a different agenda.
The 10-3 game was over before it started.

that's not true -- go watch old canadien highlights -- maybe from the last time they had a run in the playoffs. |

Game 3 is pivotal as the cliche goes.
My homer statement:
I cannot stand the boring pick, interference hockey the Devils bring. It's borderline to be called. Never liked it... |

so far i've seen none of the dominance all the experts were predicting...maybe if we win this series we'll finally get a little respect...certainly not from that announcer on nbc last night...it blew my mind how he was singing the flyers praise during the 2nd period when they had NO shots...i was under the impression that the NBC announcers are supposed to be unbiased...i swear the way he was talking during the 2nd period that he was expecting fireworks and smoke and topless dancers to come out when they finally got a shot on goal - Xnightwish

please don't lump the majority of us in with the few clueless clowns whom have already given the cup to the team they support.
Just ignore them and have good hockey talk with the rest of us.
Understand, they are going to post their silly nonsense. The good thing is, if you don't reply to their posts they will eventually go away.

Flyers dictated play for the first 10+ minutes.. then they got lazy. I give Jersey a ton of credit because they took full advantage of the Flyers not bringing their game tonight. They need to come back Thursday and get back to their game. Get pucks in to the corners and out work the Devils. We did it in game one and at the start of game 2. We need to keep that up. |

No doubt.
Lava will need to adjust their approach. I think the first thing to adjust is the dump-ins. Soft dump-ins to the corner would be wise. They made it way to easy on the devils defense by dumping it in hard-around and letting Marty stop it and play as the 3rd d-man. |

Has Bryz really been as bad or as inconsistent as everyone's making him to be? Without looking at his numbers (cause they're that bad), I can remember more stretches where his play has kept them in the game, rather than hurting the team. Sure, there have been some softies. The 3rd goal in game one against NJ almost cost them the win. But for the most part he's played very well.
Last night could have been a blowout half way through the 2nd. Game one could have been 4 - 0 after the first. He made several huge saves in the first two games against Pittsburgh that kept the Flyers alive.
Yet still everyone points to the goaltending as the Flyers big weakness going forward. I still think they need to worry more about team defense and consistency rather than Bryzgalov. |

it's all about adjustments. Flyers play better on the road - still confident in our team. |

I said majority because a vast majority of the people on this site and other sites say that. I didn't say all, I know there's some that actually respect the Devils and realize that nothing is set in stone at all, but there is a LOT of people who don't and think the Flyers are amazingly better than all the teams, etc. |

He is terrible.. and i said that yesterday.. he kills games. But ultimately he didnt kill the flow of the Devils. They killed our flow. - jak521
I agree, that's why i prefaced and said HOMER statement...
but even in the Pens series, the game he reffed, there was no flow. It was amost like the two teams could not get into the pace of the game because they didn't know what was going to be called versus not called.
At one point, I think Bill tweeted the other ref did not call a penalty during up to a certain of the game.
the old complaint of...
I didn't go to the game or pay to see the refs. |

it's called media hype....
the true fan knows the positives and negatives of their team.
Remember we were told the Pens were winning the cup. |
