Why does every person making comments like this immediately point to a crappy team in front of him as the reason for inferior stats? The very first thing they do is make excuses. - prock
Cause good and even great goalies can sometimes not have stellar numbers.
Certainly wouldnt be the first time.
Its a team game.
Just to take that comment a step furthur to our russian friend;
Thats exactly why canada is the favourites. team depth.
If it was just a 2 line, most talented wins tourney, the russians probably would be the favourites. But its not.

I see, so that must be an indication that Canada has issues on the big ice surface. So, I assume, by your earlier comments, the Russian juggernaut has won all the recent olympic hockey tourneys on olympic size ice?
Exactly how many would that be since they levelled the playing field by allowing pros? Have they all gone to Russia? In fact, when was the last time Russia, without players from the other states of the USSR, has won the gold? - prock
I take it all back.
Great post.

Eberle has 16 points in 19 WC games, 9 of which are goals. He's more proven internationally. I'd probably take him over Seguin at the Olympics at this point. In the NHL it's a wash. Flip a coin. - daeth
Peter Chiarelli will be Yzermans assistant during the 2014 games.
That's another strong voice close to the important ears of a Yzerman for Tyler Seguin. |

In other words, its your opinion. Which is fine, but I prefer stats (they minimize subjectivity in debates/discussions), and the stats don't really back it up. He's had one very good season. That's all. |

Yzerman is big on Bergy too. If he continues to be a 60 point Selke caliber player he should crack the squad again too. |

Probably. But i never really said no to seguin or even ebs over seguin. ( although i would)
Just that eberle playing for the oilers isnt a mark against him cause theyve been bad.
Its jordan effin eberle. I think i can safely say he can show up in big games |

No.
Hes only been around for 4! And been a true #1 starter for 2 of them fully.
One had good numbers with a mediocre team, and 1 was decent with a terrible team.
Your stats dont nearly say as much u hope |

He may get in due to favourtism. It's happened in the past (McCabe & Cujo for the Leafs, probably other examples for other teams). |

Because he kept losing his job to Halak!!!
At the very least, you must admit, there is no way his resume has enough good play to establish himself as a top goalie. |

Wait a minute. Am i missing something? When did this happen?
I think lowe, armstrong and holland are stevie Ys assistants. Not chiarelli.
I think chiarelli was lowes asst. for this years world championships.
So just for argument sake; using your logic, the whole seguin upper hand can now be switched to eberle upperhand.

No. He was given it as a rook for the second half Of 08-09. And played well.
Struggled in his 2nd year ( thats never happened before has it? Must be because hes not very good) and lost it for the playoffs.
Then they chose him over halak after jaros ridiculous playoffs, and price thrived.
Yes, hes absolutely a top goalie. Elite in fact. Regardless of his team. |

And Canada last won gold on the large ice in 1952 in Oslo. - Doppleganger
This is so wrong. Canada wasn't even allowed to use NHL players since 98 so your example is incredibly misleading. Way to take a bad fact way out of context. Yes they haven't won on big ice but they medaled in 98, with 2 golds on the small ice. Not bad. |

I guess youre right. I just re-read the article and he's not listed with the group for 2014. Advantage Eberle. |

Yeah i thought so.
But for reals, i dont think that'll be a huge reason why one got picked over the other.
Just wanted to flip it around on ya.
Both great young players and both will be strongly considered.
Both could conceivably make it and prob wont even neccasarily be up against each other for the same spot per se. They play different positions and dont play the same type of game really.
Prob just comes down to whos hotter in the previous few months |

You prefer stats? Then what about when you were saying Miller was better than Price and i told you Price has a better save percentage and GAA you responded by an opinion that Miller is better? It seems you choose whatever makes Price look the worse. |

Canada did NOT win any medal in 1998 in Nagano.
All I'm pointing out, is that the Russians have practically life long familiarity with the Olympic sized ice, and this will give them an advantage over teams from North America.
Couple this with the games being played in their Homeland, I can't see why they will not be seen as the team to beat...............just as Canada was in Vancouver |

That's a lot different than they'll be "the only juggernaut" in the tournament, or "I just don't see how the Russians can lose". |

semantics semantics...............whatever.
The Canadians will NOT be a Juggernaut in 2014, and that was my point.
The Russians will have all the advantages that Canada did in 2010, plus they'll have a stronger team better suited for the larger ice.

Wow, expecting me to predict who'll win games roughly two years from now, without even knowing the team rosters.
Suffice it to say that Canada (with NHLers) has had struggles on the larger ice surfaces and has yet to win a medal of any kind. They've lost to teams like Switzerland and others that no one ever expected.
Look, all I'm saying is that it is not a forgone conclusion that Canada will be the favourite (as some here have suggested) as they were in 2010, I simplify contend that the Russians will be.

lets not over analyze this okay.
Since the NHL pros have been participating in the Olympics, Canada's two golds have come on North American sized ice. The same ice that all the Canadian Pros have played on for their entire lives. They have yet to win of Olympic sized ice. These my friend are facts.
