I see, so calling Russia the only juggernaut was not an attempt to predict they'll win games? Just trying to give them a nickname of "juggernaut"? Sort of like the italian soccer teams being the azzuri? |

My first post in thread (your words) did not contain the term Juggernaut.
Isn’t that exactly what you’ve been doing since your first post in this thread? - prock
The juggernaut nickname was given to Canada by another poster, not me.
Anyway, i have no worries with price between the pipes for the juggernaut canada'll be. - hugefemale dog77

Russia has one Silver on the Olympic sized ice (since NHLers started to play)
Canada has won zero medals on the Olympic sized ice (since NHLers started to play) - Doppleganger
Quite the juggernaut. I can't see how they'll win anything but gold based on history. |

Based on History, Canada (with NHLers) have yet to "medal" on the larger ice surface.
Can't have it both ways buddy. |

Wow, expecting me to predict who'll win games roughly two years from now, without even knowing the team rosters.
Suffice it to say that Canada (with NHLers) has had struggles on the larger ice surfaces and has yet to win a medal of any kind. They've lost to teams like Switzerland and others that no one ever expected.
Look, all I'm saying is that it is not a forgone conclusion that Canada will be the favourite (as some here have suggested) as they were in 2010, I simplify contend that the Russians will be. - Doppleganger
You obviously expect Russia to be the favourite (i.e. likely to beat Canada). You also said Canada won't be a juggernaut. That implies either that Russia is going to slaughter absolutely every other team en route to the gold, or that at least one other team will beat Canada.
Which is it? |

I'm just using your stupid logic.
Canada will have the best team. They'll be the favourite based on that. All the top teams will be comprised of a majority of players in the NHL, which are mostly accustomed these days to playing on NHL ice surfaces. |

Well that's your opinion. But Canada is currently ranked Fifth in the world by the IIHF.
http://www.iihf.com/home-...ranking/2012-ranking.html
They will be in arguably the weakest "group" for the Olympics, and should emerge as one of the two teams from group "B", but as in the past, they will face stronger teams who have played most of their lives on the larger ice surface from then on, and it will not be as easy to "medal" as some of you here seem to think.
Here are the three groups, and their international ranking:
• Group A: Russia (1), Slovakia (6), United States (7) and a qualifier;
• Group B: Finland (2), Canada (5), Norway (8) and a qualifier;
• Group C: Czech Republic (3), Sweden (4), Switzerland (9) and a qualifier |

The top four ranked teams (IIHF) are miles and miles more accustomed to playing on the Olympic sized ice, than Canada is, and is definitely an edge you cannot dispute.
Remember the Swiss? Don't think they were loaded with many NHLers.

So do you agree with hugebiitch77 , who feels Canada will a "juggernaut" without taking Canada's failure to win any type of medal on the larger ice surface?

In hockey terms, what is a juggernaut? And can there only be one juggernaut??
I'd say Canada's chances of finishing on the podium are not reflected by their current IIHF ranking.
You're asking a loaded question though, AGAIN without answering mine, so instead of trying to show you the courtesy you're not showing me, I'll just leave this picture of Smokey the bear.

semantics semantics...............whatever.
The Canadians will NOT be a Juggernaut in 2014, and that was my point.
The Russians will have all the advantages that Canada did in 2010, plus they'll have a stronger team better suited for the larger ice. - Doppleganger
To the bolded Part--are u on drugs?
When i said the word 'juggernaut', It was nothing more than a euphemism to describe the great team canada'll be...on paper. No question.
But i certainly made no implication that they will be only 'juggernaut' or 'good team. Like u did...
And because of the depth of that team, imo canada will be the clear favourites. Where canada will boast 20 star nhl players, the other good teams might not have more than 5-10.
If one purports that the nhl is by far the best league ( which i strongly do) then no other conclusion can really be made.
While canada might roll out toews, benn or pietrangelo as its 3rd,4th liners/bottom pair, the russians might have guys like zinoviev, korneyev and nikulin.
There will be alot of good teams, and all have a shot to win of course.
And Some might have advantages due to home ice, big surface or weak group.
But the biggest factor is team roster. And on paper. Its hardly even close top to bOttom.
Ps. the iihf rankings argument is a waste of your breath.
I do however like our group!! One more reason i like our chances!
It can still change though, no? |

I really don't give a shyt how the IIHF ranks any of the teams based on, for the most part, the World Championships, a tournament that's pretty much irrelevant. |

You seem to think Russia is the ONLY juggernaut, without taking into account their failure to win gold on the larger ice surface since pros were allowed. Why is that? |

Because IIHF rankings dont mean sh1t when all the best get together, Group A will be an absolute banger!
Slovakia is a wild card.
I like how our russian friend uses only the arguments that help him to frame his theory.
The russians didnt medal in 06 on the big ice. So i guess that must mean they're fuked this time around.
This is sound logic |

These days, anyone can win it, among the top 5 or 6 teams. But the favourite is still Canada. Second, might be the US. Maybe Russia. Maybe Sweden.
Sweden generally puts together better teams these days. |

+1
Its so close nowadays.
But when the absolute best pros all get together;
on paper i thinks its generally..
1. Canada
2. USA
3. Russia
4. Sweden
I actually think russia/sweden is a deadheat and sweden might have the edge cause of lundqvist over any russian goalie.
But russias top end is hard to argue..... |
