Now that the Canada's team has been selected, the next thing that should be the focus of the team, is that it has been since 1994 since Canada has placed in the Medals (Silver) , when playing on a Regulation International Sized Ice Surface.

Sure we've won on smaller ice surfaces in North America.........but Canada has struggled to get to the Medal round since Lillehammer when playing on a Regulation since then.

These Olympics are shaping up for the Russian's to lose, as they are one of the favorites taking the "home International Sized Ice Surface advantage " into consideration.


Yeah, I know some people will point to Salt Lake City as being "big ice" but according to Elliot Freidman today, The Peaks Arena in Salt Lake City was NOT an International Sized Ice Surface, and neither was it an NHL sized rink, it was somewhere in between.

But that's not the major concern, as Canada has not even made it to the Medal round when the Olympics have been played outside of North America since 1994, and when playing on International sized ice.

Again Salt Lake City was sized in between NHL and International sized ice surface.

From what I know the Peak arena in SLC was only 28x60, and the International sized ice (being used in Sochi) is 30x60 a full two meters wider (than SLC) and FOUR meters wider than a NHL sized ice surface.
