Do you know of any teams that actually use Corsi metrics and the like for amateur scouting? - Jack-artist
From my understand, Vancouver does. Not sure about anyone else. |

Also Huddle, if you watch the 'Q final tonight, lookout for Alexandre Mallet on Rimouski. Undrafted last year, I guarantee he'll be drafted by the 3rd round, like Grenier last year. |

Button is ahead of the curve a lot. He tends to pick out guys before the other scouting agencies clue in. He's got some weird views, but you'd be surprised to know that most NHL Teams have lists that are completely different.
Toronto's likely has guys higher up that are dripping with character, grit, size, while Detroit would higher rank players who could deke inside a phonebooth and then Vancouver would have guys who they think are a higher "CORSI" types towards the top. Even Bobby Mac said that something like 8 out of 10 teams he asked had Yak at 1, but not all 10. - Brian Huddle
Bobby Mac said 9/10 said Yakupov was clear cut the #1 and Button was likely the "one" who went against the grain lol
Good article though nice to see different perspectives. |

Ah yes, 9/10. And Button isn't employed by an NHL team |

So Huds, what are your thoughts on Tobias Rieder? Will he turn out to be a Red Wings-esque steal for us? |

He was drafted late so he will likely be our next Nilsson/Schremp/Omark etc. |

I heard of him through actual playing numbers though, not YouTube videos. |

Would it be fair to compare the Yakupov/Galchenyuk situation to one similar to a Ovechkin/Malkin?
Also say the teams pick in line with your rankings, would Maata make the Sens right away or would we need to wait a year or two? |

Just judging from scouting reports this sounds more like the Hall/Seguin situation. With maybe a *bit* more of an edge to the #1 this year. |

Maata needs another year of Junior and probably a year in the A, maybe two.
Hes going to be really, really good though. |

Do you see him as a top pairing guy? From what I've read he is probably a second pairing guy who is real steady but not flashy. Kind of like a Ryan Suter with less upside. Or do you see him as becoming as good as Suter? Or maybe a coburn? |

Here's hockeys future's take
Rieder combines above average skill with a high compete level and is an exciting player to watch as a result. He brings both offensive ability and a willingness to get his nose dirty to the table, and is a fan favorite as a result. He has a slight build and lacks ideal height however, and this leads to him being worn down from time to time.
Future
If he can find another level when it comes to his offensive production, he could have a realistic shot at a top nine role in the NHL in a few years. He has enough skill and smarts to contribute at that level. He will need to continue to develop though, and due to his smaller size will need to better manage his energy in order to stand up to the rigors of a long pro season.
Be awesome if he became the next Zachary parise |

I read that same pro on hf and it seemed pretty out of date. They also still had RNH listed as a prospect.

Steady is his game. He honestly could be a top pairing guy one day. He literally runs the ice when hes out there. Hes just so calm, and he has all the intangibles to dominate the entire ice (meaning offensively).
He is honestly a gem, and i wouldnt he surprised to see a team take him in the top ten who wants a safe, reliable pick that still has a high end ceiling. |

hey brian,
penguins could be from 14-17 probably. is there a guy that the penguins should target?
I was reading The Hockey New's draft guide and i liked Brendan Gaunce. He was ranked at 17 there and at 11 on your rankings.
Any chance that he falls to us? I also like Tom Wilson. I also noticed you have Riley falling, any chance the Penguins take him. Having a future defense of Harrington, Despres, Morrow, and Riley would be excellent.
Finally, any chance of you seeing either London and Scott Harrington or Portland and Joe Morrow. Just wondering your views of them when watching in person and when you expect them to reach the NHL.
thanks and keep up the good stuff. |

Not really, but my interest is piqued that a guy we picked 114th overall is showing such game. I honestly know almost nothing about him except that he's German. |
