Wow. Giving up on the season already? Still lots of hockey left to be played. - PLindbergh31
It's not giving up it's being realistic. These games aren't close. The devils are better. I called out pens fans because they couldn't admit the flyers are better. Guess what the devils are just better. What do you see to say otherwise? |

I am as shocked as you guys are tonight. I thought Bryz was fine. It just looked like the Devils are extremely determined and Flyers took some penalties that are unchacteristic. They just look frustrated and got themselves in a hole. |

This is upsetting, of course--but let's not forget where this team was at Game 1 of the season--now we're what? Game 92 or 93?
There were many people who were ready to hang Homer in effigy for giving away so much offense, and yet here we are. We weren't a Cup contending team at the start of the season, we made drastic changes to our roster, we lost our captain, and a few more to injuries for long stretches--these guys battled, were the comeback kids, and knocked off the Penguins in six games.
It's easy to be pissed at them right now because of the way they are playing. But let's not forget the accomplishments they made this season. - KGBflyers10

I agree. This game and the Series is definitely all on Matt Carle. - MJL
Never said that, but he has blown way too many coverages and hasnt moved his damn feet. |

They have tried - but other than picking up someone like Grossmann, I would say they often choose players based on what the player has done rather than how the player fits in.
Look at how NJ has managed to mold Kovalchuk. Is this the same Kovalchuk who was a defensive liability in Atlanta? - PT21
Really? So adding Schenn, Simmonds, Voracek, drafting Couturier. All of a sudden, these aren't good moves?

Worst player on the team. Only reason the Flyers are losing the Series.

The Devils are a juggernaut, when they were in double overtime in game 7 against those powerhouse Panthers, I thought they were a lock to win the Cup.

I think most everyone could get on board with that IF we saw them trying harder. The compete level from so many players is like night and day from the first series. It's absolutely baffling. Jersey isn't even physically punishing us that much. Just so disappointing after the first round. |

The Devils are better right now. Anyone watching this series can see that. The Flyers been outplayed and dominated. They cant move the puck out of their own end and cant create anything offensively. They are making the Flyers look like a team that hasnt won many games all year. Have to credit the Devils. |

DeBoer has that playoff pedigree, his resume speaks for itself, no chance for Laviolette to match X's and O's with a tactician like DeBoer. |

Certainly not all on him, but aside from his goal, he's having a mostly brutal series. Looks very slow, plays hot potato with the puck too much and has been way off on his angling. Of all the D men I've noticed him the most. In a bad way. - rockychocbill
I disagree completely. I think the D men as a whole, aren't getting a lot of help. And they are under seige from a forecheck that is overwhelming them. They don't have a lot of places to go with the puck. He has been no worse then any other player on the team. On a team that is being outplayed as a whole. But Carle is one of the "go to scapegoats"

If we're not such a young team, then why did we have so many rookies suit up and make such an impact? - KGBflyers10
The defensive core is not young. The one everyone keeps hoping will finally "click".
Before Grossman was brought in they were even worse.
I understand Meszaros isn't playing but they need a shake up back there big time. Along with a guy who can be a true top pairing guy. I hope we have all seen Carle/Coburn do not do it on a consistent basis. Kimmo is showing his age, I cannot fault him.
In terms of the forwards they are a younger group. However expecting them to magically turn into great defensive players isn't a good strategy to me. A lot of the time, you have it or you dont. Coots would be an example.
As a group on offense, I question how they mesh when they are asked to play defense or on the boards. There are far too many of them that are questionable in both departments. JVR, Briere, Hartnell being the big 3.
In terms of grit, they are getting their asses handed to them along the boards. |

it does. feels like there's a constant powerplay. imho, the flyers simply haven't put on their hard hats and come to work. forget the 2 goal lead today. total mirage. |

Listen, we're not going to get answers until the end of the season, but I think it's pretty clear that the team is mentally or physically spent, along with injuries to a few players. This isn't a Richards-Carter era team, where they just skate along and hope for the best because they can score at will. This team competes--we know that--so personally, I'm going with the idea that the rookies, especially, just don't have anything else to give.
