I don't know why the outrage.

It was a cheap, dirty hit and G got nothing but the head of Zubrus.

- KGBflyers10

It sounds like a lot of what Giroux did with the ref played a part into his decision. By the way I didnt think the slash of the stick was as violent as Shanny is making it out to be.

Very disappointed in G's action. Not the best time to lose your composure.

Whether it was suspendable based on criteria laid out by Shanny is immaterial. What is material is his selfish play that forced the league to make a decision.

In a time when the season is imploding all around them, it's time for your best player/arguably future captain to keep a cool demeanor about him and lead by example. And that was a poor example of how to help lead your team back into the series.

- 77rams

Without Giroux this is a 75-80 point team, if anyone on the team deserves a pass it's home. His emotions got the best of him, it happens. Learning experience for him.

it's official, one game for g. incompetent bumholes in the leauge office. absolute horsepoop!
- flyerscup2011

agreed. Absolute garbage whencompard to what has been let go. Next time roo should stop..grab his head and beat it off the glass. Only 2500 for that. Maybe the team will rally around this and maybe show a little emotion but it doubt it.. The devils won't allow that much excitemnt to get into a game.

For me, the outrage is about the inconsistency of Shanny. I would have no problems with G sitting a game if Weber, Malkin, and Neal got what they deserved as well. Weber deliberately slams a stars face into the glass and gets nothing but a parking ticket. Malkin targets multiple Flyers in the head, injuring Grossmann, and gets a pat on the back. Neal takes 2 deliberate, dangerous runs at 2 key players and gets a game (with a history). It's absolute garbage by the league.

Kudos to Zoobs for an Academy Award on the play as well, sprawling to the ice for 3 minutes as if he'd been hit with a missile then returning to score the game winner

I don't think suspending Giroux for his hit is a disgrace. It is, however, a disgrace that prior incidents by star players weren't similarly dealt with.

Thats my only issue. No consistency.

I think based on what the other decisions have been and the logic, I disagree with the suspension. Is it correct according to the letter of the law? Sure. Is it correct according to how other decisions have been made? No. In most other head shots, you see a guy with his head down and another coming with the head clearly visible. In this case Giroux has to overtake and swivel and lunge in the general area of upper body. I think the intent was to injure, but not specifically targeting head.

ANway, you could see from the Flyers post-game conversations that they are done. There is no way this goes to game 7. So, maybe Shanny thinks its moot anyway.

- PT21

Its the inconsistancy. Some players get away with a hit like that, and others dont. Did Giroux deserve it? Just as much as Malkin and Neal deserved it. So why did Giroux get one, and the other didn't.

The real lesson here is, you have to take the guess work out of this. Don't discipline based on "intent" The rules need to read any contact that's initial point of contact is the head will result in a suspension. From there you can use "intent" or "severity" to decide the length of the suspension.

Also, while your taking such a close look at head shots, also get rid of other real dangerous hits like charging hits, or boarding hits.

I'm still utterly shocked Weber got nothing but a fine. If that's not intent to injure, then there's no such thing.

I have no problem with the suspension, it was deserved, where the crime is at is how Weber gets off free with a head slam. Neal only 1 game for the intentionally targeting Giroux head, but NOTHING for launching and leaving his feet to hit Couturier, add to the fact he was a repeat offender.

No time to whine about it, Flyers have to come out guns blazing in Game 5 and hopefully Giroux will take this as motivation to raise his game for a possible Game 6.

It's a megajinx. The picture may as well pan out to him using the Stanley Cup as his tee.

Of course you dont. Who would. The point is the consistency in suspension is horsepoop. I dont care that he was given a game its just that Shanny has missed a lot of headshots that are in his so called rule book.

Its good to see Shanahan follow the rule book for once cause he missed most of the head shots in Round 1.
- stveshdy

Shanahan played for the devils, so hence the 1 game suspension

It's his first season of having to be the face of the team, more or less. And he's still a kid. Very disappointed in his actions, but I'm not going to act shocked or call it unforgivable. He's young and I'm sure he's already learned his lesson.

Game 26 against the Islander, sure.

Game 4 of a series against a team about to place you one loss away from PO elimination, nope.
