now that's a situation where HL should have at least been at the top of his crease. fail.
and oh, look, so that's what happens on a pp when the pk team has a guy break a stick. flyers should try that some time. - hammarby31
Have they taken advantage of that at all this season? |

i don't pin the series on him, but he clearly wasn't up to the task either. - hammarby31
No, the Blues defense did a poor job, too, but he wasn't making the big stops like he was during the regular season |

I would almost prefer a 5-3 loss, with hardworking goals from Schenn, Simmer and Read than a 2-1 win with Briere scoring 2 goals. I know what we have in Briere. A lot of the excitement about the younger players will be diminished if they disappear again.
ok, I said almost. |

The NHL is a crazy thing. The caps were dominate for a few years being a top seed and couldnt get to the ECF. This year they struggle all year long and have a better chance to get there. Strange how things work out.
By the way the LA Kings remind me a lot of the Flyers when they went to the finals a couple years ago. - stveshdy
Only difference is Quick isn't quite as good as Leighton. |

Caps did a good job moving the puck and taking advantage of the lack of a stick. Good shot by Carlson, too - Jsaquella
it was good work, and they were just firing it at will. unlike the flyers, who overpass and then overskate and don't even get a (frank)ing shot on goal. in OT. |

I actually was about to type that. They have Quick we had Leighton. |

opportunity SEIZED. - hammarby31
With what is going on with the Flyers series, I can't even get excited about the Rags getting beat. It likely means we get to watch the Devils in the Stanley Cup Finals. That is way past old. Seen that movie enough. |

If the Caps blow this lead, Backstrom will have nightmares about that wide open net. |

That was pretty much the series right there. |

I don't see Quick posting 3 shutouts in a series. |

i know you're being TIC, but to be fair, quick has slowly and steadily improved his game in each of the last 3 years. he took a lot of heat in 2010 for their playoff failure, deserved or not. he was better last year, and even better this year. that's what you want.
and yeah, not really fair to have your cup hopes pinned to a journeyman ahl goalie. i've said it a million times though, say what you want about him, he saved their season, and helped get them to the prom. |

It's possible. Amazingly Hunter has done a great job with this team. Their commitment to playing in their own end is unreal. They are something like +35 in blocked shots in this series, and the Rags lead the NHL in block shots this year.
Holtby looks to be a monster. Just what the Eastern Conf. needs another 20 something franchise guy. |

I wasn't a guy who slammed Leighton for playing poorly in the SCF, it's hard to blame a guy for being what he is. And you are right, he came out of nowhere and helped the team make the playoffs.

holtby's done a very nice job in his limited opportunities, both last year and this year. the caps are very fortunate to have him, otherwise they'd have been finished. it remains to be seen if he becomes a long-term franchise goalie. a lot of them look good for a year or two but don't sustain it. |

think about what he did in the boston series. literally coming off the bench to fill in for an injured boucher in his first game back after a 2 month high ankle injury absence, with them facing elimination, and pulled off only the 3rd 3-0 deficit comeback in nhl history. i'll always have a soft spot for him, despite his less than stellar finals performance. |

Very true. Holtby looks good, but it's too early to call him a franchise guy, if I had to bet, I would say he will be though. |
