The Blues have 1 defenseman signed past next summer, and have no amazing d prospects of note. It seems ridiculously unlikely that they'll trade a dman, let alone that the Isles would turn right around and give that dman up... - Morris
Yeah, it just doesnt make sense too me. And even if they did have the D prospects I dont think the Oilers would be interested in another one. They are looking for a ready player |

I like to think all of our ass-backwards proposals from yesterday were at least getting closer to reality than Ek is right now - Morris
They were at least plausible(well, some of them were). This went from, "ok its ridiculous but lets debate it" TO "absolute BS" |

Both teams have lots of young firepower up front (and in prospects), little defensive talent, no permanent solution at goalie and several aging guys on bad contracts. There are perhaps no two teams that would make worse trading partners in the NHL.
The only player the Oilers could reasonably pursue is Matt Martin, and I don't see the isles giving him up, either. |

I could easily see the Habs trading for the top pick. Oilers would only move down 2 spots, get the guy they want in Murray, and pick up something of value in the process. |

Why would St. Louis trade away a stud dman? Who would it be anyways? Pietrangelo(sp) isnt going anywhere and I cant see shatty getting moved either... - Oilfan19
We will trade you the rights to Jax who you can then flip to Edmonton and we will send you Cole and we get taveres? Sound good?
Hope you can pick up on the sarcasm. No way the Blues trade Pietro or Shatty and who else would NYI want? You can have Colaiacovo for a bag of pucks and Jax is a UFA. Polak is a decent pickup but he has a very good contract why would the blues move him?
I asked ek that on twitter yesterday and of course it was ignored. Blues need scoring but its not at the expense or Pietro or Shatty unless it is Tavares and Moulson. |

I love Martin but I'd give him up and the fourth in a heart beat, its just too bad your GM would say no! For a team "with a lot of offensive fire power" and a "ton of prospects" we honestly don't have a whole hell of a lot to give up. We couldn't give up Taveras or Hamonic, other than that there isn't much you'd guys would be interested in? We really don't have a hell of a lot of high end prospects, Strome is really the only one I can see. |

Philadelphia? God knows during this year's entire play-offs, they have taken their whining to the next level.
That said, I'm sure the stud UFA would want to win and play in the play-offs. - Oneonta Penguin

If we offer Suter 10 mill a year for 4 years he will take 5 to go to Detroit instead. - niteislander
Yeah, NYI and every other team is after the 4 big named UFA dmen. Question is, if Edmonton is going to get a dman from the Blues through the NYI, why have the middle man. The Oil and Isle have the same sort of team. Lots of young prospects to offer. The oil could even part with someone like Hemsky to get it done. NYI and the Oil are in the same boat and they both need one of those UFA dmen and neither are likely to get them. Plus both have money to offer. I don't think there are two teams that could help each other less than these two. |

More likely the Isles will be trading some of those prospects and picks for an ALREADY signed top tier d-man from a team that has cash issues. After they get shot down by Suter and everyone else. |

Brock Nelson, Anders Lee, Kabanov, DeHaan, Mayfield, Poulin, Nillson, Nino, Cizikas, ...none of these are high end prospects? - niteislander
I certainly hope they are, but I don't see them as impact players, not yet. Good potential, but not sure how they're seen around the league.
this rumor is garbage. If the Isles were targetting a big time UFA dman, they won't be able to sign him until July 1st unless they trade something for his rights. To say they're also going to trade for another defenseman to flip to Edmonton is just silly. They don't have enough offense to give up unless it's a prospect they want to move. To give up a good prospect to get a 4-5 defenseman to then flip him to the Oilers...how would that be anywhere near enough for edmonton to trade out of the #1 spot?
Just makes no sense. If the Isles do trade someone off their roster to swap picks with the Oilers, how does this entice a UFA defenseman to sign there when a number of them already turned them down? They need to add something of substance to their roster, not deal established players for unproven young talent.
The Oilers aren't going to drop spots if they don't get blown away by an offer, they're not picking 5th, it's 1st overall. Those picks very very rarely ever get moved.
Remember the package for Lindros? Even if this year's first is worth half that value the Isles can't afford to pay it.

The ones bolded are high end prospects, third round picks that have no motivation are not. ie Kabanov |

What Kabanov was when he fell to the 3rd round and what he has become are 2 very different situations. If you are going to speak about him... do your homework and then feel free to bash him if you feel it is warranted. Everything I have read about him has been positive in the past year and a half. The islander stock piled picks and took a few fliers in late ronds hopeful they might pan out. Kirill Petrov in 1 draft and Kirill Kabanov in another draft. |

Not sure I'd consider Cizikas a high end prospect. He may be a greatly above average 3rd liner, but I don't know if I would throw a "high-end" tag on him. Kabanov has a top line skill, had a great season, and the off-ice-issue worries seem to be way behind him now. |
