I don't go that far. The Devils didn't do anything differently this series than they did all year. Two different styles collided. You can't change a style or philosophy in the playoffs. One of the styles was going to come out on top. We all knew that going into it.
I like what PL did with this team this year. - Scoob

He's a 60-65 point player tops. Not great and not the difference maker Holmgren hopes he will become. Not acceptable for his skill set or draft position taken.
I'd trade him in a heartbeat for the 2nd overall pick in any future draft. - LW2530

The Flyers lost because they were outworked and lacked discipline. If they spent as much energy trying to win puck battles as they did face-washing and taking runs at guys they might have done a lot better.
Zac Rinaldo may provide 'energy' to a roster but it is completely guaranteed that he will provide the opponent at least one PP in the game. Hartnell spend half the series punching guys in the back of the head or face-washing them at the whistle. Even Briere wasted too much energy hacking and spearing guys.
I feel bad for Flyer fans because you have one of the most passionate and loyal fan bases around. But I was glad to see the team lose with the punk way they played.

Just a question, not mad or anything, but why are you in the Flyers thread after we just lost and not in the Habs thread? - Sabreshark
Ill run it by you when i enter my next thread, ok? |

Maybe it's just me but I read a few people who were saying the Flyers need a goalie like the ones who are left who can steal a game, etc.
Only Quick and Lundqvist are two goalies that I think would have done better than Bryz (exclude the Clarkson goal) in the NJ series.
If Brodeur, Holtby,or Smith played in net with how poor we play as a team defensively, I still feel the Flyers would lose in 5 games. Bryz played well in the series and kept them in games they had no business being in.

Everybody in the flyers organization talks about scoring goals. Lava always talks about scoring goals. The NHL has changed again. The refs have slowed it down with the stuff their letting go as compared to 3 years ago. Hawks, pens, and flyers could be behind the 8 ball if they don't recognize it - Just5
Yeah it's really a crock of horse poo that the NHL has decided it wants to play a more clutchy/grabby style of game. After the lockout it was all about speed and skill and letting players showcase those abilities. The Flyers had to completely revamp their roster from the old pre-lockout days. Now it's reverted back to that style but way faster. At least the Hawks and Pens each got to win a cup. Philly was oh-so close yet again but no cup. |

So now they have to use the LTIR on this guy for the rest of his contract. 10% over in the summer but it still stinks he cant be placed on that list until the season starts. |

There is one piece of evidence I would like to present in favor of Lavy being outcoached. That is the change in NJ's own style of play from games 1 to the rest of the series. In periods 2 and 3 of game 1, we simply bormbarded them with shots and had much superior puck possession. In the last 2 periods (counting overtime) we outshot them 22-8! We never had that much skating room ever again. In other words, NJ clearly made adjustments. But we never made adjustments to their adjustments. |

I was waiting the whole series for a player to step up and change momentum, and fire up the team. To get them going. Other then Bryzgalov, who kept them in a lot of games. The only player who did something to at least temporarily add fire to the Flyers, was Rinaldo last night. With some big hits and physical play. No one else stepped up to try and change the tide. - MJL
I thought talbot did to a degree. If we could clone him that would be nice. We need another guy in that mold |

Well, we'll disagree then. Bill, myself, and others have pointed out that Lavy was out-coached in this series. If you don't agree, you're entitled to your opinion. I am not saying that the entire blame for the lost series goes at Lavy's feet, but some of it surely does. IMO, just to write this off as the players failing to execute, or "lacking" is a woefully incomplete analysis of the situation. Lavy has to do a lot better as well if we are ever going to get past the teams that play this style and play it well. - BringBack25
All I've seen is blanket statements based on the outcome of the Series, that Laviolette was outcoached. If you've read all my posts throughout the Series, I posted in detail what areas the Flyers are being outplayed in and what I feel are the main reasons for the loss. I've yet to read anything specifically, including in your posts, how Laviolette was outcoached. |

Dude.. you were watching the NHL archives, a look back at 74-75....
Seriously though... how were they playing like punks? They were getting destroyed, and they acted out of frustration at times.. but hardly punks. |

i love the naivety of thinking regarding goaltenders. do people watch any hockey besides the flyers? anyone notice that all these heralded goaltenders play behind teams that either sag and sag around their net and block a ton of shots, or own their games possession-wise and just don't allow many chances? - OrangeBlack27
Great point. One way to get better goaltending and giving up less goals, is to limit chances. And not only that, but give up less quality chances. The Flyers give up way too many quality chances against. |
