I didn't say that they lost their heart and will. I said that one team imposed their will over the other. There always has to be a winner, and a team that is better. Players win games, not systems. The system is just the vehicle. Without any gas in the tank, the vehicle goes no where. The players provide the fuel that makes the system work. Take away the Devils dominance on the boards and outnumbering the Flyers on the puck, and the system wouldn't have meant squat. - MJL
Your last sentence is part of a system. The devils implore a system that preaches pick support in all zones. Sometimes systems win out. Like the cover 2 defeated the eagles 10 years ago. For the flyers it was a mix of a lot of things |

I waited til every player left the ice then actually stayed a little longer to talk to a few people who have sat around me the last 3 years. with the prices being jacked up a lot next year, quite a few are not coming back. - nastyflyergirl
Curious, what are the changes in prices for next season? |

Every team preaches puck support in all zones. It's a basic fundamental of Hockey. The system never wins out. The execution of a system does. |

I think the dominance and outnumbering is part of the same reason and so its more system than effort. Its actually rare that we lost individual one-on-one battles. Most of the time, their second guy got to the puck quicker than our second guy. Thus, offensive dominance because their wingers came down low and did not fear our D. Offensive pressure because their D pinched and our wingers floated around.
I saw a lot of effort last night. But it was like flailing away at a well-oiled machine.
Last thought before I resume my life: I really hope that Flyers look at the entire sequence of similar losses throughout the season, including games against Rangers, as part of the problem. At the very least, the puck needs to exit our zone with more predictability next season. A lot of defensive teams are beating offensive teams this year (which is a pity, but has to be faced) |

Thats not true. Some systems don't match up well to other systems. It isn't always execution. That is when your coach needs to find a way to adjust to the difference in systems. |

I just hate the way he plays. This whole series he was betten to pucks because he doesnt want to take a hit to make a play. Kimmo as hurt as he was went into the corners everytime and took some big shots just to make the play. |

Hartnell and Simmonds were horrible in the playoffs. Simmonds you can excuse becuase he is young, but Hartnell... What happened to that guy from the regular season? |

Now the playoffs are over, I cant wait to see what Homer does in the off-season. Never a dull moment. We can't afford to go into next year with this same team... Too much talent up front, and no #1 d-man anymore.
TBH if Kubina is cheap, like 2 million I would resign him, and go after a number 1 guy in a trade. I think Wellwood has earned his spot, as has Rinaldo. I wonder if they bring Sestito back for 1 more look. Before the injury, he looked like he would have been a good player to have. |

Martin Brodeur credits the discipline of his teammates as a main reason for New Jersey's success against the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round of the postseason. "You can talk about scoring goals, about forechecking them and playing well and all that, but I think what was tough on them was us not retaliating to any of the stuff they were doing," Brodeur said after Tuesday's 3-1 win to finish a series victory in Game 5 at Philadelphia. "All of the stuff they were saying every single game, guys just turned away and didn't respond to anybody. And I think when you're a team that you feed off of that – they were able to get Pittsburgh all wrapped up in that stuff – I think it must have got tough on them a little bit just to talk to themselves all day long." The Devils also didn't want to turn the series into a special teams war after the Flyers lit up the Penguins in Round 1 with their power play. New Jersey's penalty kill held Philadelphia to three goals on 19 opportunities after they struck 12 times in 23 attempts versus the Penguins.

We have all our forwards except Jagr, and Sestito signed for next season, not counting RFA's. And we have guys like Wellwood, Rinaldo, Brown, Cousins, and Zulnerczyk all likely to see time next year... Lets assume they sign either Sestito or Jagr... That's 16 guys for 12 spots; 17 if you include shelly. IMO you can afford to trade 2 of our roster players for a Number 1 d-man. |

i just dont think that's the only answer. it could be, but just cause you pay alot for a "#1" doesnt mean success. Obviously this team missed the hell out of pronger this year.. but look at the 3 remaining teams in the East. Do any of them have a clear cut "#1" ? |

It absolutely is true. It's always execution. Systems are way over played. Every Coach has been successful at one level or another. No Coach has some revolutionary system that's never been seen. Every system is based on Hockey strategies that have been used for years. Nothing is a surprise to any Coach. Whatever team brings the jam behind it, as has been said. That's what system will prevail. No system is worth a dam without the players and the execution behind it. |

I posted this in the gameday blob last night, but I'm going to post it again. Sorry to those that have already read it....
It stings. It tastes bad. Their lack of energy this series was extremely frustrating.
But guess what?
This team is remarkable. They're a resilient bunch of guys that have fun doing what they do. They were never to be counted out. This team is easily my favorite team that I've seen play (I'm 18). With that being said, how unbelievable is this team's accomplishment? They traded away their core for youth- an entire new identity. It was a REBUILDING year. Who would have thought, let alone expected, this team to compete the way they did? Not enough can be said about the rookie contributions, and about the heart they played with every single night. The depth was a true surprise, and everyone did their jobs, from the coaches to the players.
With every season and every playoff comes ups and downs and, specifically for the Flyers, growing pains, but all in all this season was an incredible one, and leaps in a direction that should excite every Flyer fan (and terrify others).
Here's to a team that I (and the rest of us) am incredibly proud of: the 2011-12 Philadelphia Flyers. |

Exactly. However I find it strange that the Flyers needed that to get going. Its the playoffs why you need extra incentive is beyond me. |
