Do you want a #1 defenseman or more balanced throughout? - stveshdy
I think you can have both. What I would like is to resign Kubina cheap, if possible, and maybe even resign Jagr and Sestito, again for cheaper then this year. Then you can afford to trade 2 forwards for a number 1 D-man, and create a checking line that you need. Maybe even have a checking and Energy line...
Lets just say if you traded JVR and Read...
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Briere-Simmonds
Talbot-Couturier-Wellwood
Sestito-Cousins/Brown-Rinaldo
Timonen-Number 1 guy
Grossmann-Coburn
Lilja/Bourdon/Gus-Meszaros
HS: Brown or Cousins, Zulnerczyk, Shelly, Lilja/Bourdon/Gus
Seems like a well balanced team to me... |

Exactly. However I find it strange that the Flyers needed that to get going. Its the playoffs why you need extra incentive is beyond me. - stveshdy

I think the dominance and outnumbering is part of the same reason and so its more system than effort. Its actually rare that we lost individual one-on-one battles. Most of the time, their second guy got to the puck quicker than our second guy. Thus, offensive dominance because their wingers came down low and did not fear our D. Offensive pressure because their D pinched and our wingers floated around.
I saw a lot of effort last night. But it was like flailing away at a well-oiled machine.
Last thought before I resume my life: I really hope that Flyers look at the entire sequence of similar losses throughout the season, including games against Rangers, as part of the problem. At the very least, the puck needs to exit our zone with more predictability next season. A lot of defensive teams are beating offensive teams this year (which is a pity, but has to be faced) - PT21
None of what you said in the first paragraph is about a system. That's about players. |

I think it has some merit. I'd like to see a style that is more catered to the defensive side of the puck. But what happened in the NJ series can happen regardless of what style you play. Laviolette won a Cup playing the style he wants to play. |

Why I dont mind your thought process I would like to keep Read because of his contract. I think he is worth more than what his cap hit is. You need a player like Read on your roster. |

I would have to look back the year he won the cup and see how his team was defensively and how responsible his forwards were. I hear what your saying but the Flyers need to tighten up in their own end more if they want to have a chance of winning the cup. |

I like it and agree with Greenberg.
They have to be able to win the 2-1 games with tight checking and team defense to advance in the play offs. |

Hes a scoring foward playing defense. His offensive game has slipped also since all the injuries. So what he does well is starting to fade each year. |

If your assuming that JVR is going in the deal, that eats up 4.5 for whatever the contract is... And if you do get a Number one then you dont resign Kubina, and Maybe not Jagr either... And poof, there is your Money for a Number 1. |

Just curious as to why you would want Kubina back? IMO, I want nothing to do with him returning. |

better hope giroux scores 60 goals and assists on another 100 or else, we would probably miss the playoffs. |

I waited til every player left the ice then actually stayed a little longer to talk to a few people who have sat around me the last 3 years. with the prices being jacked up a lot next year, quite a few are not coming back. - nastyflyergirl
I hate watching the handshake when they lose. Just makes me feel gutted. But I wasn't going to leave before the game was over. I didn't think they'd salute the fans. Never have before. Guess Jags influenced that, too. So I'm sad I didn't wait for that.
As for the question of what I think of people leaving early. I get annoyed if the team is still in it. But I can't say I was all that annoyed after the third goal last night. They weren't playing with their heads at all and I could see being too demoralized to stay. It's not like those fans staying was going to keep any energy in the building. The balloon had popped by then.
Mimi is likely gone next year, but she wasn't there last night anyway. Otherwise the regulars were there and are staying. I'm not sure I can handle another hike without relocating to the upper level. And I'd hate to leave my neighborhood. Have been there 16 years. |

agreed, three letters is the most likely candidate to be this year's richards, carter or gagne |
