You guys are letting the flyers off the hook way to easily - vejim
How am I letting them off any hook? I'm going to root for them and follow them no matter what, like I have for over 30 years.
I have opinions, but it's not as if I can trade a guy or fire anybody. So what good does it do me to talk poop on them and act like an idiot saying "1975" over and over?
The team I root for hasn't won in 37 years, wooo they suck!!!! Maybe if you feel that way, you shouldn't bother following the team, unless of course you enjoy being miserable and making others feel that way. |

sure, every athlete and fan wants a championship. but glory fades. trust me, in 20 years he'll sleep a lot better a millionaire and non champion than he would a penniless champion - flyerscup2011

I just read somewhere yesterday about how being too negative greatly increases one's risk of heart attack and stroke. Since my other lifestyle habits aren't so conducive to prevention, I'll stick with staying positive |

They lost a playoffs series. It's disappointing, and frankly they got their asses kicked, but there's no reason to be such a crybaby about it. Ultimately expectations were exceeded this season.
As for the '1975' thing, you're right. It has been a long time. That's not a good thing, and as a fanbase looking at the very long term we should be something upset with it. However, throwing a hissy fit over it and ignoring all other context isn't necessary, and doesn't help the blood pressure. |

I've questioned Laviolette's decisions time and again during the season. I am questioning his work against the Devils as well. Wondering where the split in blame lies isn't the same as calling for his head.
All we know is, the players didn't execute and the adjustments the coaches made didn't work. I doubt that the coach loses his job over it, so it's really a moot point. - Jsaquella
I think over the course of an 82 game Season, there will always be moments when a Coach is questioned. No educated fan is going to agree with every decision made. However, when a team is as soundly beaten as the Flyers were in this Series. That's clearly a player issue and not a Coaching one.
And I'm hearing the same complaints we heard about Stevens. His system is no good. He doesn't motivate the players. Not holding the players accountable, etc.

I like Lavy but if these players keep commiting these atrocious mistakes that end up in the back of the net, then he needs to seriously revamp how his system is ran. I believe in player execution but sometimes you just don't have the personnel to run a particular strategy. I would like him to just run a more defensive minded system. not totally revamp everything but he has to at least adjust this thing so it's not so damn mistake prone. - JoeRussomanno
That could be done. But I don't know if it will. I think if you want to play a different style, then your going to need a different Coach. But I'll also say, that under this Coaches system, we have seen this team play the right way. So the foundation is there for it.

I doubt anyone is happy that they lost. But I'm not going to act like a spoiled child who didn't get his way because they lost. I'm going to look at it rationally and avoid knee jerk comments that make one look like an idiot down the road. |

Well, I'm not about to play eenie-meenie-minie-moe with the kitchen knives to see which one gets to do me in, if that's the extent of disappointment you're looking for.

Well that stuff is just frustration. It's not systemic or motivational. They took the Devils lightly, executed poorly and wasted a lot of energy. Any adjustments that were made didn't work. To me, there's blame for everyone.
I think the emotional letdown after beating the Pens, or motivation to face the Devils, is more on the veteran leaders than the coach. My worry going forward, with the coaching is, figuring out a way to beat teams that forecheck heavily and swarm on defense, because those teams have given the Flyers fits the last couple years. |

I do remember in 2010 a lot of talk about the team buying into Lavy's system and so forth. It sure seemed like they did buy into it then. I also remember Kimo saying something about them not playing the system after a loss to NY. Therefore I'm not ready to start ripping lavy if the players are just not playing up to par.
Like I tried to stress to those who brought up Phx being so much better this year, a team that is together for a while usually gets better. Watching this series I saw a better team effort from NJ, not a bunch of individuals trying to hit a homerun every play. Same thing with Phoenix, Ny and LA they are all playing as cohesive units. The Flyers will get there but it's gonna take time. |

Losing sucks. Homer will make the right moves to get better. If they dont win again next year, he will do the same the following year. The organization doesnt sit on its hands and wait there trying to put the best team out on the ice possible. |

That's the other thing, the fanbase can hem and haw all they want, it;s up to those in the front office to make the moves. I think the fanbase rightfully has faith in them to get this thing going. The Flyers have done everything year in and year out from an organizational standpoint but win a cup. They go after high profile free agents, make mind numbing trades and fire coaches when warranted. Knowing that Ed Snider runs the ship he does, I'm not gonna have a stroke over being ousted in the second round of the playoffs. Gee whiz I swear listening to some people you would think the Blue Jackets play in Philly. |

Lack of focus. Lack of emotion. Lack of determination. Lack of wanting it more. Everyone takes blame for the loss--players, coaches, GM, Organization!
I'm not going to get down on this team but they do need to tweak this roster and figure out a way to beat the pressure. |
