I do remember in 2010 a lot of talk about the team buying into Lavy's system and so forth. It sure seemed like they did buy into it then. I also remember Kimo saying something about them not playing the system after a loss to NY. Therefore I'm not ready to start ripping lavy if the players are just not playing up to par.
Like I tried to stress to those who brought up Phx being so much better this year, a team that is together for a while usually gets better. Watching this series I saw a better team effort from NJ, not a bunch of individuals trying to hit a homerun every play. Same thing with Phoenix, Ny and LA they are all playing as cohesive units. The Flyers will get there but it's gonna take time. - JoeRussomanno
This NJ team made some moves, added Kovalchuk, and last Season they were what, 23rd overall in the League. Missed the playoffs. this year they're going to the ECF.
This Flyers team traded two of it's top players, brought in a new Goalie. Had how many rookies in the lineup. Had a 20 year old in a key role as it's top checking Center. Lost 2 top 4 level defenseman including Pronger to injury. And the Flyers finished 6th overall, and made it to the 2nd round. What's the problem is what I want to know. I think they're right on track. But all I hear is if we don't play a different system, we'll never beat Boston, Rangers, or the Devils. Hogwash I say!

Lack of focus. Lack of emotion. Lack of determination. Lack of wanting it more. Everyone takes blame for the loss--players, coaches, GM, Organization!
I'm not going to get down on this team but they do need to tweak this roster and figure out a way to beat the pressure. - stveshdy
Last night it seems more that they each were trying too hard and coming up empty. They were running around like headless chickens. And each guy trying to do it himself. It just all broke down.
So you start again. I throw out the 2011-12 tickets and get ready to save the 2012-13 tickets, hoping this will be the year they make it onto some kind of framed pic of my Stanley Cup holding Flyers. I enjoy the ride. And if I don't end up getting exactly where I hoped I'd go, at least I had the trip. |

The funny part is that nobody tells him how horrible it looks. His friends walk behind him chuckling at other people's reactions.

What would you like everyone to do? If people were slamming the team, the players, the ice girls and Kate Smith you would somehow feel better about the loss?
I seriously just don't understand this mentality. |

I agree I don't know why there is this need to go chicken little. The season's over but seriously it was probably over when Pronger went down. The beauty of it is these guys are young and new to town. I personally don't want any big changes just few things addressed. From this coaching staff, I want to see less defensive breakdowns and from this veteran corp I want to see more consistency and fewer slow starts. This coming out flat in big games at home has to stop. I lay that at the the leadership's feet. The mistakes in the defensive zone I'm laying at the coaching staff. Now I;m not calling for anyone's head or anything but I do want to see improvement in those areas next year and build upon that every year going forward until it gets the reward we are all looking for. I don't think that's asking too much or being content with losing. |

Theres no excuse. They didn't get it done. That simple. They lost to a team that was better in the series. Have to go back and regroup. Make the changes necessary and try again next year. |

Maybe you have been making excuses for 37 years. But I haven't. No one is forcing you to be a Flyers fan. Wait to see who hoists the Cup in a month or so, and instantly become their fan. Your heartache, despair, and long suffering will be over |

Tweaks will be made, but the biggest key is the cornerstones for the future learning from this year. Guys like Giroux, Schenn, Couturier can use the experience from this year as a valuable lesson.
We know that Homer will make moves. But the key is for the guys that went through this year to learn from it and grow from it |

See, here's the problem. There is a big difference between trying to figure out reasons and making excuses. I've found the discussion today to have been remarkably cogent hockey discussion. With very rare exceptions. If you're looking for people to rant and rave and show how little they understand the game you can go to the comments in the Inky/DN site. |

Why not that combover is good for a making somebody feel better about themselves. - ob18
This is true ob. I would feel like Ashton Kutcher next to that guy.
Me- "Hey hot girl, wanna make out"
Hot Girl- "Not with you in a million years"
Me- "Yea, you have better options, I'd like you to meet my friend Edwin, he used to be rich and successful"
That could work. |
