Danny talked at length after the PC today about how much he loves living in Philly and plans for it to be his permanent home. Mentioned that his oldest son is starting HS and his kids view Philly as their home. Also said how much he simply likes the lifestyle, weather and location here.

I was told Jagr has had a thigh strain during the playoffs but it was hush hush. guess we will find out how true that is tonight tho when the injury list comes out. - nastyflyergirl
He was asked, but declined to talk about any injuries he played through in playoffs. Said it's part of hockey and players on all teams deal with it.

Well if we're focusing on today then I would be concerned as Bryz's performance was subpar. I'm like everyone else banking on next year he'll be better adjusted, etc. I think it's an interesting option for a franchise to have. My guess would be they sit on it for another year and re-assess then. - aosplayo
To me it depends on how the clause is written. If your allowed 1 buyout, penality free over the course of the next CBA, then you wait to use it when you need it, for example if Weber becomes UFA next year and you need to cut cap bad to sign him.
If the cluase only allows a buyout before the current season, then there are 3 players you have to consider.
1. Pronger. But because he is on LTIR it does not effect in season cap, just the off-season cap.
2. Bryzgalov. If you don't think he will be what your paying him to be, right now might be your only chance to get out of it. But then who are you going to get to be your Number 1 next year? So this is unlikely either.
3. Briere. This is the most logical choice for me. He is the highest paid player on the team, and just doesnt show up during the regular season, and his defensive liability hurts the team as much as his scoring helps the team in the playoffs. Besides Briere is not as effective on the wing, and we currently have 6 guys not including him on this team that can play center, not to mention players like Cousins and Brown that deserve a shot next year. And finally, Briere's last contract year is during a year that we will need to resign Giroux, Schenn, Couturier, Read, and Meszaros... not including anyone else that signs between now and then... If these guys continue to progess, this could be very expensive, and having Briere at 6.5 million and a NMC could prevent you from signing 1-2 of these guys.... |

So it seems unless Jagr wants to take a paycut or sty the same, he's out of here. Do you see any teams giving him more than what he made this year? Especially after his playoff performance? |

heard this year is going to be pretty deep in the draft we should be okay by staying put. - JoeRussomanno
Ok would you move this years and next years firsts, a second, cousins and a roster player for Weber? Tough choices ahead.

Well when you haven't had a goalie post anywhere near a 2.00 gaa when starting over 30 games since Esche in '04 and this guy comes along and has a year where he still manages to put up a goals against average under his career average and only one other goalie matched those numbers since 04 I'm not ready to jump down the goalie's throat. That's just me, I know right now it's the in thing to bash a guy who was the best goalie down the stretch in the league and was our best player in a series where our team was a no-show but I'm not going to that party. |

who would score in the playoffs?? - Briere
Giroux, Harntell, Schenn, Couturier. oh yea and we wouldn't have to worry about putting them with guys that can play defensively. |

From reading the Habs blog, sounds like Patch's and Jagr are really good friends.
Would the Habs offer Jagr a contract, who knows. More then what he currently makes, no clue.
Glad I could clear that up for ya, FM!

He was quite good against Penguins -- points in 5 of the 6 games, and his best game of series may have been the clincher where he didn't get a point.
He struggled mightily against Devils, along with pretty much every Flyers winger on the top three lines.
And, yes, a host of teams see how much leadership he brought along with 50+ plus points and would want him, which means there will be teams that offer him $4 million and up.
He said it won't be a money decision -- it will be a role on team decision (i.e., back on first PP unit, etc).

That's a lot of money to spend on an old player. Tough call. |

Bill, his role only diminished in the last series when he was ostensibly injured. He can't be pissed about that can he? Otherwise, he was on the top line and saw second PP minutes. Is that where he wanted more? If that's the deciding factor in whether he wants to play for the Flyers again, I'm okay with him not re-signing.
