I hope Holmgren isn't planning on bringing back the same exact defense core, Timonen a year older, and the same cast won't be enough to get it done. - PLindbergh31
Bringing back the same Defense core is an excellent start to getting it done. You always tweak and try to improve your team.

I'd rather him do that than overpay for someone right now. Just be patient there's a good chance Weber's days in nashville are numbered then what? We can compete and keep our heads above water who knows what will happen. Players become available via trades every year. - JoeRussomanno
Fair point Joe. I'm not a fan of Carle but if he's willing to take less to stay here, it wouldn't be a bad thing. I would prefer Carle at 4.5 to Wideman at 5+, Suter is a significant upgrade to Carle, but not sure the Flyers can fit him without subtracting some players. |

If as Holmgren says, the Cap is around 69M. With Pronger on LTIR. The Flyers are going to have around 13.4M to play with. |

I'm not debating Suter being better than Carle, that's obvious. However in the grand scheme of things, Suter is going to be overpaid by someone, I'd rather not be that person. I think a much better defenseman could become available and I want to be ready to get that player. U just never know when a guy is going to walk into a Gm's office and ask for a trade. Tocchet was saying the same thing on DNL about standing pat and trying to go full bore for Weber down the road. I think right now that is the best option. Even if we get Carle at 5 mill that is still 2 mill we can use later to squeeze a Shea Weber under the cap. |

We'll see what happens. Timonen, Meszaros, and Grossmann were playing at far less than 100% in the playoffs, so perhaps if they were somewhat healthy it would be a different story, however there are no guarantees. Then again there are no guarantees anyone they may acquire stays healthy. |

That's a good amount.
If you project Carle around 4.7, and Voracek around 3.5, it gives them 5+ to add another significant piece, whether it be a d-man bumping Gustafsson back to the Phantoms, or a forward to replace Jagr. |

Im sure Homer will check all possibilities. But there are so many factors working against him with the NMC, the cap hit, Briere's willingness to move etc.

NMC. And before you explore it, you need to get his okay. And he's not likely going to agree to it. And the Flyers aren't likely to ask him to

But wont around 5 of that be taken up by Pronger until the first day of the season when he is eligible to go on LTIR?

If there is a bonus cushion available, that would give them even more room. And they have other avenues open to them to get more space if needed.

They can also burry Shelley and free up some more space if need be. Trade Bob is another option and replace with a cheaper backup. The Flyers have ways to clear some space if they really want to add someone. |

I defer to MJL, I have very little knowledge of all things cap related. |

Yes, it will. But there is the 10% off season exemption. Also keep in mind that on July 1, Walker and Bartulis are added to the Flyers Off Season Cap. That's 2.3M.

Have to ride it out. When the Flyers signed Briere it was the right move at the time. Now they have to live with it. |

But you can't do that with Shelley in the Off Season. Playing Season Waiver period is over. And won't begin again until the 12th day before the Regular Season starts.

Shelley has never spent a day with the Phantoms, with the cap going up, it becomes very unlikely he will be buried to free up a million bucks.
I think there is a chance Shelley remains in the franchise after next year if he retires in some sort of role. Kind of like the way Cote has remained. |

Bartulis looked like a promising young player and then the injury occured and he has never recovered. I thought he would of been a nice third pairing type player. |

True. I was just thinking that he could be moved to free up space. Not really thinking about the summer but thats stupid on my end bc the free agent signings are going on. My bad. |

Anything is possible. However, I think the Flyers have other options next year who can make the roster over Shelley. Does that mean it will happen? No clue. |

It probably won't happen. Not a big deal. Shelley's presence didn't really prevent them from doing anything. So it's really not an issue. I think the contract slot is more of an issue than the cap hit. |

I would love to see Weber in Philly. I really hope it happens. If he becomes a UFA, with Kimmo coming off the books next year, you have to think the Flyers will be big players in the Weber sweepstakes. |

I honestly like what I saw from Sestito before he got injured. I think he could battle for a spot on the 4th line next year. |
