good point, but isn't his body breaking down? does he really want to go through all of that again for $2mm? - flyerscup2011
At this point in his career, I severly doubt money has anything to do with it. He wants to win.

what do you find unrealistic about it? i guess attracting the 2 biggest ufa's is rare. - flyerscup2011
Amnesty buyout isn't likely to happen.
Why trade young guys like Read on low money contracts? Why trade JvR for picks and then turn around and spend elite defenseman money on a guy like Suter, who isn't elite?

my dream off season for the flyers:
timonen retires (he's still good, but not for his cap hit)
pronger is amnesty bought out and retires
jvr is traded for the 8th and 38th picks
matt read is traded for a 4/5 dman
flyers sign zach parise and ryan suter
trade bob for backup and 3rd round pick
lines look like this:
parise-giroux-hartnell
voracek-briere-simmonds
schenn-coots-talbot
wellwood-cousins-rinaldo
suter-meszaros
coburn-grossman
carle-dman from read trade or bourdon or lilja
the player i want from the 1st rounder from jvr trade is jacob trouba. - flyerscup2011
If the amnesty thing actually happened I don't think I would waste it on a contract I could LTIR.

i'm just gonna laugh at that one. what would you consider a reasonable return for 3 letters? do you think he's available this summer if another team asked? - flyerscup2011
I don't think that the Flyers will be shopping JVR. He'd be available if the right price is offered.

What I severely dislike is that these guys have an actual impact on the performance of the team that they cover. They sap the players of energy. Do the players have to be more professional and figure out a way not to let it bother them? Yes. But at the same time, they are human, etc. These pot-stirrers try to drum up readership while distracting and knocking down the players they cover. And they seemingly enjoy it (even if the enjoyment is expressed through whining). - wilsonecho91
that's the most infuriating part of it. they refuse to understand that they're (frank)ing up our poop, or if they do understand, refuse to not do it. i want to maim them. all of them. |

you don't think a team would give the 8th and 38th picks for three letters? how about the 8th and say 68th? - flyerscup2011
Claude Giroux, James van Riesmdyk, Brayden Schenn, Sean Couturier, Wayne Simmonds, Jake Voracek and Matt Read. Is this not an impressive group of up and comers? Why trade any of these players away if we're not getting a better roster player in return that we don't have to groom? I only suggested trading our first and Nick Cousins earlier today to move higher in the draft to get a young defenseman because we seem set at forward, especially at center. In my opinion my idea improves the team. It doesn't ship off one of our most prized roster players just to do so. We have a great young team. We shouldn't divide from it, we should add to it. |

i think he's got 1 year to "not always have something wrong with him"...or he's out. his contract isn't that albatrossy. |

The right price, for me, would have to be part of a package to land a good, young & established defenseman.
I'd really rather not see massive wholesale changes. |

I agree 100% with what you said here. Bryzgalov gave too much of himself to the Media. He shared too much of his personality and who he was with them. And they burned him for it. I agree totally about putting up a barrier. And not getting antagonistic with them as Richards did. That doesn't do anyone any good. - MJL
and guess what...when he reeled it in, either through club order or of his own volition, he was immediately demonized as being "boring". damned either way by these 2-bit hacks. |

is suter overrated b/c he plays on a pairing with weber? jvr can bring in pieces to help win a championship, the team is loaded at forward and if you can get value from a position you're deep at to bolster a position you're weak i think it's a smart move. |

i would imagine so. it's easy to interpret that comment from homer in a broad fashion, meaning things beyond physical issues. i think they are quite displeased, fair or not. |

Good point. Like that is relevant to covering the team. That's what I'm talking about. Creating something out of nothing. It's not enough to just write about Hockey.

Trading JvR for the 8th and whatever other pick doesn't address immediate needs. It's unlikely to count on a 2012 draftee stepping right in and playing a huge role.
I don't think Suter is overrated, but he's going to be overpaid, because the UFA market for defensemen is weak. He's the top of it, followed by Carle, Wideman and Oduya. I'd much rather pay Matt Carle $5mm than Ryan Suter the $7mm or so that he's likely to get.
Now, if Chicago was interested in a JvR headed package for Brent Seabrook or if Phoenix would take JvR++ for a guy like Yandle or OEL, then I'd be listening. |

in order to get best value, you have to trade high. three letters and read have high value right now. i'd rather keep both players, but we're already very strong at forward and could use defensemen and cap space. |

Well I told you guys about the Islander game I was out when he got the shutout and lost in the shootout and they booed him off the ice for his twirl, I was appalled. I'm so tired of this all or nothing mentality that has corroded society. Yes we want to win a championship/Stanley Cup but c'mon are we gonna win it in February playing the Islanders? I think not. - JoeRussomanno

You don't trade quality players such as Read who is on an EL deal, to get Cap space.
