I read an article today that pointed to Parise resigning with the Devils now that they made it to the ECF. He really wants to play with a team that can contend. His agent said this has had an impact on him possibly wanted to stay. - stveshdy
who's their goalie next year? matthau and lemon only have so much left in the tank. |

I think rumors have them making a play for Bernier. Not totally sure how true that is. They will find someone even if they have to go with a one year deal with Brodeur. |

No, he wasn't. But the same knocks that JvR has levied against him are the same that LeClair faced at age 22.
Now, if we're shutting a window, it had better be long after age 22. - Jsaquella
how much time do you give him? 25? 27? it's not as if he's earning entry-level money either. the flyers paid him handsomely for projected/expected production. |

that's the thing about sports, especially hockey, you just never know what move will pay off in spades or which one will fall on its face - flyerscup2011
You don't, which is why you need to hire good scouts that you have faith in, and put the players you acquire in a position to succeed.
I'd be on the lookout for:
1. A top pair defenseman, if not a true number one, via trade if possible
2. A good defensive center, with some size, who can play on the PK & win draws
3. A gritty veteran winger who has a wealth of playoff experience & a Cup ring
4. Failing landing a top pair defenseman, a solid second pair guy with a big point shot who can work a PP point
5. A veteran backup that can handle 15-20 starts and not need to play to develop.

I don't know their financial situation but I don't think its a lock that Parise hits the open market, thats just my guess of course. - stveshdy

That contract was alittle premature imo. I didnt see the need to offer that kind of a deal. I think they paid him more than what he's worth so far in his early NHL career. However, if he does what is expect it would be a steal down the road. |

even if they do get bernier, he's not likely to come in and be that instant #1. i just get the feeling he's not going to pan out, regardless of where he plays. not sure what kind of prospects they have. i will say that if they replace brodeur with someone resembling him for the next 10-15 years i will end up in prison. |

He did manage a 20 goal season in 2010-11, and as Holmgren said, he battled injuries all season long this past season.
I'm not totally closed to trading him, but at the same time, it's got to be as a part of landing a top pair defenseman that can play 30 minutes and be a rock. I think the guy has a ton of skill and would hate to see him blow things up in a different sweater. |

Homer isn't going to just give him away. So I think that the return will definately be for a player that is needed. |

With the system that they play, a solid backup goaltender would keep them in contention. |

Hopefully, in 3 years Couturier is a stud second line center being named a Selke finalist and putting up 70 points. I'm very excited to see him and Schenn getting more offensive opportunities. |

understood. obviously the flyers don't want that either. they want to reap the fruits of their patience. i'd be willing to give him 1 more year, assuming he's healthy, of showing real progress and becoming a key player they can count on. after that, i'm looking to move him for the right price. |
