Well, yeah, if he comes out next year and scores 15 goals and his physical game is inconsistent, then they have to look at moving him. - Jsaquella
Too often, it's the second team that reap the benefits of a power forward. The team that drafts him gets impatient, moves him, and kick themselves for it later. |

Howard Eskin just tweeted that he's hearing 9 Flyers will be going under the knife. Timonen will have back surgery for his disc problems, and JvR will be having hip surgery - Jsaquella

It isn't going to happen, but yes it would come off the books. He was 32 when he signed the contract. - bmeltzer
Why won't it happen? Word has it that he's gonna need even more surgeries this offseason, and the poor guy is just going to be another year older. Add back problems to this, and it only seems imminent....
With this being said, in no way do I want to see Kimmo hang it up.... |

Not that I disagree but with a cap world thats how most players are viewed. Is so and so worth that hit?
I think his expectations next season has to be around the 60-65 point mark. - stveshdy
The cap hit is important, but a guy coming off his EL deal getting a deal that pays him for potential has to be viewed a little differently. That $4.25mm will be a lot for a 23 year old with 23 goals. The Flyers are betting it will be cheap for a 26 year odl with 40 goals |

The Flyers should put a list out of the healthy players that don't need surgery it would probably be shorter. |

before the injuries started to pile up in November he was on pace for over 30 goals this season. Kid has the ability that's for sure. |

Once again not that I dont agree with you because I do. However, we all know that Homer isnt very patient and if the Flyers have a need he is willing to cut the string and move on. |

He did start out good, but he battled the hip all year. Then the concussion and then the foot...just couldn't catch a break. |

That is true, too. And if I can get a guy like Keith Yandle, I'd be interested in doing so. Nobody is untouchable |

I love Keith Yandle. But I was told numerous times on this board that he's not very good defensively which I think is untrue. Just because he doesnt play on the PK doesnt mean he's a liabilty as a defender. I like Yandle a lot and he would help improve this defense instantly. |

He's improved quite a bit in what I have seen. I have been watching the Yotes in the playoffs, and he's been more than adequate in his own end. A year or two ago, he had some issues, but he's gotten better.
Granted I'm watching him more often now |

From both sides would you do this trade: JvR for Yandle? If not then tell me which team would need to add more and add players you think it would take to complete a deal. |

I'd be more likely to do it if I was the Flyers, but it wouldn't take a ton more from the Flyers for me to do it the other way around.
Phoenix does have several good young defensemen, which is part of why I mentioned Yandle in the first place. They could use some scoring up front, too. |

This is a legit trade that I feel can happen. Like you said Phoenix has some talented defenseman in their current system. They could use a scorer like JvR especially when their two best guys are Whitney and Doan who are old. |

So I was reading all the nonsense before about the amnesty clause they want in the new cba, but let me ask you this. Why is it that only in football do we hear about players renegotiating their contracts to alleviate their cap hits to help the team? Can you do this in hockey, and if not, then why not incorporate that into to cba instead of an amnesty clause. |
