Howard Eskin just tweeted that he's hearing 9 Flyers will be going under the knife. Timonen will have back surgery for his disc problems, and JvR will be having hip surgery - Jsaquella
They'll have plenty of time to heal. There most likely won't be NHL hockey until Christmas anyway. |

So I was reading all the nonsense before about the amnesty clause they want in the new cba, but let me ask you this. Why is it that only in football do we hear about players renegotiating their contracts to alleviate their cap hits to help the team? Can you do this in hockey, and if not, then why not incorporate that into to cba instead of an amnesty clause. - fecondo
It happens in the NFL, in my opinion, because contracts are hardly guaranteed. A 50 million, 8 year deal shakes out to truly be a 48 million, 3 year deal. Therefore, re-negotiating is a sign of good-will and may make you a more attractive candidate to be signed during free agency, etc. |

I don't want to get into an entire Media discussion. But the most disappointing thing about the Philly media, is the agenda they have. From the print, online, and radio. Their agenda isn't to tell the story unbiased and offer the facts, and report what happened. Their agenda is to create controversy. Because they feel that generates readers and listeners. And the biggest issue is, most of the public buys the nonsense. And when it comes to the Flyers, there is no doubt who the ring leader is. They've all sold themselves to try and survive. You see it on Comcast, WIP and in the papers. I'm disgusted by how the Media has evolved. Thank God for guys like Bill Meltzer. Who backed by the knowledge he has, simply tells the story. And his agenda is to inform and fill his readers in on what's going on, and his take on it. Without bias. Instead of drifting towards being more of a gossip columnist then a Sports Blogger or reporter. And I think Bryzgalov fell into their trap. As did past players here recently. - MJL

Does anyone else find it disturbing that people are making fun of her face?
As a father of a young children, I think there is no element of humor here. |

Other than a dumb penalty, does anyone but me think Rindaldo was the only player bringing it the last game? I know he was well rested, but I would put that type of performance on any checking line. |

The NHL has a rule against renegotiation of contracts. So even if a team would like to renegotiate, they can't.
In the NFL, players don;t have 100% guaranteed money. Often they renegotiate because the team presents them with a redo the deal or we'll cut you ultimatum. |

Almost no NFL contracts are guaranteed. If they don't renegotiate, they can just be cut. There's incentive to renegotiate.
In other sports, there is realization that nonguaranteed contracts mean the athletes, who are taking all the physical risk and are the product have no real leverage and no security. The NFL has a weak union. |
