Does anyone think that Bryz might have to be better conditioned than he may have been this year? Maybe work on some of the technical aspects of the position? Do the Flyers have the right goaltending coach? Look what Burke has done for Mike Smith in Phoenix. - drajf0429
Maybe, but the jury is still out on Smith. Look at what Reese did for Leighton, or what people were saying back in 2010. |

Hello all. I had been banned. By my wife. Once the PO are over, I have to give her some attention, since I am so vital to the teams success(her words with eyes rolled) . I think the season was a successful one. I am equally excited about the future. I love how Bryz played better each round. He got passed the first round for the first time. Now work on the second next year. I'm not one for keeping Carle, however, if he is really cheap then go for it. I think our D will be sweet next year if you can add a stud. Hopefully Mezz stays healthy.
Grossmann-Coburn
Kimmo-Stud
Carle-Mezz
Could be some good stuff. Add a dman and maybe another sniping winger. This team really doesn't need much.

Future looks good. As long as Bryz puts in the work to be better, which I think he will, good teams only tinker to become great teams. Even if we have to trade JVR to get something for D, Homer will makes us much better. - Deasr1
Carle even if he signs for under market value, is not going to be really cheap. And the Flyers aren't going to get both a stud defenseman and a sniper. They don't need a sniper anyway. |

Yeah, I thought about that. We don't need one. I just think we are a stud man away from making things very interesting. |

Okay so I found the NHL guidelines on a player being considered a rookie,
To be considered a rookie, a player must not have played in more than 25 NHL games in any preceding seasons, nor in six or more NHL games in each of any two preceding seasons. Any player at least 26 years of age (by September 15th of that season) is not considered a rookie.
For discussion purposes I'm referring back to my question about whether Sestito was a rookie this year.
Now since it says a player who has played in 6 or more games in any two previous seasons is not a rookie, doesn't that mean Schenn was not a rookie either?
Thanks for the help. |

I'm all for depth, but by my count, the Flyers already have 10 top-9 forwards heading into next season -- minus Jagr. That's also not taking into consideration any other kids that might stop up this year, a la Read and Couturier.
There is an opening for a solid 4th line center who can kill penalties and win face-offs. But that's a luxury at this point, not a need.
I'd be focusing on a blue line upgrade/addition of some kind. Without Pronger, there's only five NHL defenseman who I feel comfortable rolling out in the playoffs (Lilja would be #6, but my comfort level with him is not high). Gustafsson and Bourdon may take additional strides in their development, but that's no slam dunk, because their ceilings were never all that high to begin with.
I'd like to re-sign Carle, and another NHL defenseman and call it a day. |

Homer's optimism at re signing Carle has me wondering if they really would go after another D man. I was thinking he was going to be too expensive and they would need to replace him.
If Carle comes back do you go into next season with Kimmo, Coburn, Carle, Meszaros, Grossmann with Gusty/Bourdon/Lilja as the 6th-8th guys?
It sounds like Kimmo will be back and the rest of the core is already under contracts?
Would you be satisfied with Carle back and no other major changes made on D?
Would a healthy Mez give them better threat from the blue line?

That would be ideal. I think if we could add a guy like Jason Garrison it would make for a very skilled top 6 |

This was Schenn and Sestito's rookie seasons. - bradleyc4
That's what I thought but someone told me it wasn't because Sestito signed a deal back in 07 with CBJ. Also I saw how the rule says that a player cannot have exceeded 6 games in any two previous seasons. Sestito and Schenn both played more than six but less than 25. I always thought when they hit the 25 mark that was when they are not a rookie or aged past 26.
Which brings me back to Schenn he did play more than 6 games the previous season so the way that rule reads or at least how I interpret it, he's not a rookie. Or am I just misreading that thing. Gosh the NHL makes some dumb rules imo. |

Tallon has suitcases of money to work with, I doubt he lets Garrison get away. |

i just edited myself reading it again, when i first read it i was interpreting it as having to meet either of the criteria not both of the criteria
now i just have no idea why it's worded like that |

A guy capable of 2nd pair duty, but would initially be slated for the 3rd pairing, if all else are healthy.
It would also be a good way to help control Kimmo's minutes throughout the season. |
