He's been about as involved tonight as I was, and I was cooking dinner and doing laundry - Jsaquella
To be fair, the Rangers have a way of doing that to key opposing players. But I agree that he was a total non-factor tonight.

Well for Dale Hunter he can now go be involved in his London Knights run to win the Memorial Cup after winning the OHL championship. |

I saw at least three time where he skated past scrums in the corners, where the Caps were outnumbered or where he could have given them a man advantage...just skated right past each time, didn't even stop waiting for the puck to pop out. |

As we saw with Game 3 against the Devils, you simply can't give away a game like that. |

How about the high sticking penalty by Backstrom on a pp where the Caps looked about as disinterested as could be.
I admire what Hunter has done, but they cannot have Semin and Backstrom and Green and AO on the same team. Thats too many $ for too little big game production. |

Thank your stars we drew the Pens. We would have been easily bounced against almost everybody else except perhaps Florida. |

So we could have been swept? That would have been just as much if not more torture then the 5 games it took the Devils to beat the Flyers. |

If timonen retires will he count against the cap? In other words... was his deal an over 35 deal like prongers? |

No he signed his 6 year deal when he was 32 if he retired (probably not likely) it would come off the cap. |

My friend said he heard espn say timonen might retire... I know its espn.. but still... If Timonen does retire that would free up 6.5 mil. so Flyers could trade JVR for a defenseman, Sign Suter, and Maybe Pairse. |

It's far too early to know what he'll do. The options for what the Flyers can do are endless. I for one won't or will try not to come up with scenarios it will just drive you insane and end up getting in the area of can only be done in a video game.

If they do anything they'll make moves to like Bill suggest to keep him while making moves for when his contract is up after another season. |

He's not retiring this summer. However, it sounds like there's at least a chance he'll miss the start of next season.

Timonen would absolutely hate this idea, I'm sure.
However, I think it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for him if he was put on LTIR for the first half of the season after his surgery/surgeries.
Give him all the time he needs to heal and then play in the second half and the playoffs. Might help him to be healthier come playoff time while still having enough games in to be able to handle the pace of the playoffs; remember that he'll turn 38 before the end of next season and has a lot of mileage on him.
It would also give the Flyers a mighty roomy LTIR allowance for the first half of the season -- remember that in the playoffs there is no cap because the players are not paid for the playoffs.
Just a thought. Obviously if Timonen is healthy enough to start the season on time, he'll play. But if there's any doubt about his rehab timetable, why not give him more time and also give the team several added months of cap flexibility as well?
