I think the moves will be as simple as signing Suter, or Carle, adding another top 6 d-man, and adding a 4th line checking center to enable Couturier to move up into a more prominent offensive role. That will probably be the extent of it, but with Holmgren who knows. - PLindbergh31
Signing Suter and signing Carle are two seperate scenarios, that's what I'm getting at.
You get Carle, Moen, and maybe another player for what it could take to possibly sign Suter. |

Not sure about that, figure Suter costs in the area of 6.5, Carle is going to cost in the 4.5 neighborhood, you aren't signing Moen and another player for 2 million. |

Looking at the Devils cap situation, they only have 13 players under contract for next year, including no goaltenders. It might be tough for them to sign Parise. |

I think Suter's PP ability is being underrated by some. I wouldn't be willing to go to 7 per season, but I think he's worth the 6.2-6.5 range. - PLindbergh31
No it's not being underrated. I'm fully aware of Suter's PP ability. He is an upgrade over Carle in that role. The point is, is he that much better then Carle is, to be worth the contract? How many PP goals has Suter scored in the last 2 Seasons?

Yea I know what it is, I'm just looking for the poster to admit that a deal for a player like Parise can be made that would have his cap hit in the same range.

I expect 6.5 to be almost a minimum for what Suter is going to get.
I don't think some people realize that Parise and Suter are in for absolutely INSANE pay days. The lack of talent in this pool of UFA's this summer is ridiculous. As the two premier player's available, they are going to cash in big time.
This is all of course, dependent on what we give Carle. If he resigns for 4.5, were looking at 1.5-2 mill (max) for a Moen type player (Paille, Burish, etc). Maybe we don't get that third player, depends on the numbers being dished out. But I still take Carle and a third liner over a long term contract to Suter that badly handcuffs us later when there could be much better options next summer.

That's my big worry in FA this summer...the pool is very shallow. Good players, but not many of them. They will get big paydays |

I would like to trade to get a defenseman. We've talked about some players like Keith, Seabrook, Yandle, etc. I think the Flyers will look around and possible see what Suter is looking for, then take it from there. |

I said being underrated by "some". Wasn't implying you. Not sure how many PP goals he has, but I do think he's a substantial upgrade to Carle. I believe he's better in every area as well as being less mistake prone. The fact that Carle's agent doesn't seem interested in testing free agency makes little sense to me. |

The agent works for the player. If the player says, "I want to stay in Philly, make it happen" then the agent is stuck. |

I agree with this 100%. Which is why I made the point in my prior post, with the lack of a deep FA pool, why is Carle's agent interested in taking a discount, instead of testing free agency? Makes no sense to me. |

Exactly. This class is honestly perfect for the Flyers in their situation. Lots of depth guy's available to round out an already strong roster. I just don't see the need already to make big changes again.
I think one more season to see what we really have (or will have) in guys like Cooter, Simmonds, Read, Jake, and Schenn is a way better idea. Let's round out the roster we have. See how good some of these guys really are.
Next summer then becomes the summer of shoring up the defense. With the space we'll have open and the talent available (and Weber a UFA), were still in fantastic position IMO. |

Seems to be the case with Carle. Same with Coburn. He probably could have gotten close to $5mm on the open market, as well.
Perhaps Carle has found a place he likes and wants stability, after being traded 3 times in the space of a few months. |

No, he's not better in every area. They are very comparable players. The player calls the shots, not the Agent. I'm quite sure that Carle's Agent wants him to test Free Agency and get the biggest deal he can. The bigger Carle's check is, the bigger his Agent's check is.
Here is some articles written on Carle and comparisons to other players. Hopefully you can be objective enough to read them and consider the factual information given.

We all would, but Phoenix wouldn't. Right now until he can prove to stay healthy and increase his production, the JVR contract is a bad one. He's being paid on potential, not for what he has accomplished. |

I do really like your Moen idea. A guy like him would be a perfect fit as a depth forward. Gritty, has playoff experience, hard worker, willing to fight and be physical. |

Because in todays world, most players would trade in a level of comfort and happiness for more coin.
Carle absolutely loves the team and the city. He's the kind of guy that remembers he get's paid millions of dollars to play something he's had fun doing since he was probably 5 or 6 years old.
An insane concept to think about in today's world, but yes, humble people do still exist, albeit sparingly. |

If they are comparable players, I would expect the deals they sign to be close to equal. We will see how that plays out.

That is a logical way to proceed. However, the Flyers' style of the last 2o years has been to be bold and extremely aggressive.
I'd say it would be more Ed Snider (and Peter Luukko) saying to aim high rather than Homer pushing for it specifically.
I am almost 100 percent positive that the Bryzgalov acquisition and contract was a case of Holmgren delivering what Snider/Luukko wanted than of Homer driving the bus and top management signing on. The previous offseason, with Leighton being re-signed and Meszaros and O'Donnell added to the D appeared to be more of Homer recommending a course of action and his bosses agreeing to it because the club had just gone to the Finals with Leighton/Boucher.
