he's still 5-10" and 190 pounds.. he's not hughe.. but not small either..
he doesnt have to be big to be a pest.. if he's doing his job right he simply agitates opposition players til they take a penalty
i dont know... i'm gonna keep an open mind with this guy.. this is the feisty character type guy that has been sorely missing from the leafs lineup the last couple years - Dozzer
I agree, I think he'll do fine on the 4th line.
As for the Nash talk again, I think it's plausible but Howson will get more than he deserves and less than he's expecting. If Grigs & Galchenyuk are gone, I'm ok trading the 5th, no chance Forsberg will ever be Nash. We already have what Reilly and Dumba are projected to be. Nash's contract is a burden, no way Howson gets full value with that contract. I don't really have a proposal but i guess it would be something like 5th, Kulemin, Connolly, aaaand yeah Kulemin + 5th sounds enough to me, doubt CBJ does, Connolly to balance salary. |

The #1 pick is also a risk..
I could see him moving the pick for a proven player. A proven #1 D that is.. Unfortunately the Leafs have nothing of the sort, so moving onto the next available option to fix the Leafs...
Anyone else here interested in trying to pry Mikko Koivu out of Minny to centre the #1 line? Any idea what it would cost? - mfreedman
But he can take Yak and if he is a bust, its not on him.. everyone says he is the best player available, its not even a 2 person race.. even though closer to the draft TSN will try to make it seem like there is some doubt... Yak will be #1.

ok fair enough.. but if the leafs take on nash i hope they dont take on luongo..
dont need two term inflated contracts..
and i honestly think that there are better options than nash considering howson's price tag |

Forsberg is not a bad piece to get at all, and will most likely be gone before we get him.

Is my prediction of what the draft will go like...
I dont like the idea of Grigorenko.. Work ethic issues are one of the worst things to see this early on in a player...
I wouldn't mind the idea of trading:
Tor 5th
for
around the 10th overall + B+ prospect
Then use the 10th to draft either Faksa or Gaunce, depending on who is available. |

I personally dont think that Yak should be the #1. Just for age difference alone... That year makes a huge difference for a lot of prospects, and while I understand that he is obviouwly the safe bet, I would be much happier with the #2 pick than #1. |

i'd love to have gaunce.. but he's tough to peg... some peoplehave him in the top ten while others have him as low as the mid 20s |

I dunno, Luongo would still be an asset. Adding 2 players like that I think makes us a playoff team. I know the contract situation sucks but Lu is just long, at 5.3 it's managable. I hope we just end up with Grigs or Galy, but it's decent plan B.
Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
Nash-Grabovski-Kadri/Frattin
Ashton/Frattin-Colborne-vet physical forward
Brown-Steckel-Kolamov (sp?)
Phaneuf-Gunnarsson/Schultz
Liles-Komisarek
Schenn-Gardiner
Franson ( if not traded)
Luongo
Scrivens
I think if we were to take those contracts a lot of ours would be out (obviously) whhhooo knows. (frank)in bored.
I would say we are getting one of them, just a hunch. If not I don't see many changes, but that also means a future 1C in the draft. I got confidence in Burke, I know most don't, but he usually comes out on top with his deals or at least has a chance to. |

I assume that the Leafs scouting staff will have a better idea of where they would land, and make sure that a pick they traded down to would have a good chance of landing one of them..
If they think he is valuable enough to take at 5, then I am fine taking Gaunce at 5 if he truly deserves the position. |

I would say 10th is too far down for Faksa, but i agree, i'm actually Faksa > Forsberg. As for Grigorenko, exact same issues, talent, and size as Spezza back in the day. |

Also, even if we didnt want to target a particular playter, looking at what it cost us in order to get the 22nd pick from ANA in order to draft Biggs (25th pick + 32nd), I wouldnt mind trading our 5th for say TB 10th and TB 19th... Then trading TB 10th + TOR 37th for BUF 12th + BUF 21st... etc..
Basically stock piling a bunch of later picks... Since most of the later picks are hard to peg, jsut having a larger number of these picks would give us a good chance of taking a steal in the draft.
Obviously these trades arent overly realistic, but the general idea of what I would like to do is still there, IF we couldnt get the guy we want in the draft (Galchenyuk) |
