Depends on how high the first round pick is, and if its a cap move to sign Suter.
- RooNosHockey

Suter at 7 mil +(as rumors suggest) is the last thing I wanna move JvR for.

Cooter will be a top line guy sooner than later. But I think right now he is best suited as the third line shutdown center. It is a role he can thrive in, and gives him the right kind of pressure for a kid his age....IE, worry about preventing goals, not producing goals.

Briere will be gone soon enough, and Cooter will have plenty of time to hone his offensive game as he gets bigger and stronger, and improves his skating and faceoffs.

I sense that sometimes people talk about "3rd line center" as being some kind of exile where he wont get minutes or some such thing. But if he is out against the other teams top lines constantly, he will be gorging on minutes. Add to that his PK and PP time, and Cooter will easily reach 20 minutes a night in that role.

Many of us need to relax when talking about labels...1st line, 2nd line, 3rd line.....blah blah blah. The minutes will be there. We don't need to worry about which line is which. In my opinion, the 1st line is whichever line is producing the most that particular night.

Keeping Cooter in his primary shutdown role will HELP not hinder his development. It will give a him big bite of responsibility on this team without overwhelming him with pressures you don't need to put on him...IE scoring. And believe me, out against some of these top players who have never seen their own zone, he will get plenty of offensive chances right where he is.

Well said.

In addition to all of the 2C talk, it doesn't really matter. Lavi can mix and match tactics. If there's a defensive zone draw, Giroux or Schenn or Couturier will be out there. And Briere will get his draws in the offensive zone.

right now: tavares, spezza. jason allison in years past.

are the sedins considered elite skaters? obviously hard to knock off the puck, but i don't think either is especially speedy.

I wonder how NBC's ratings are doing now with NJ/NYR and at the delightful start time of 8:00 PM?

I'll allow the sedins, but that's only 5.

I don't see widening the rink changing or preventing teams from packing it in around the net like the Rangers do.
- MJL

teams will have more room to free wheel, but in specialty team situations it wouldn't matter...but I'd take it to free up the neutral zone and allow for better skaters to break traps/locks.

I think sound effects for blocked shots would help in that area, just my opin tho

I would think the ratings outside the NY metropolitan area will be dreadful.

It would help out in the neutral zone. But once the puck is established in the offensive zone, I don't know if it would matter.

I guess I am the only person that would not trade JVR. He is part of our young core:

Schenn, Coots, Simmonds, Read, Wellwood, Giroux, Voracek.

JVR brings something those others don't - stronger player. Simmonds is physical but not as strong overall in terms of skating with puck and maintaining puck possession.

This is a great core of young forwards. Don't F it up.

Funny how the Rags lead the NHL in blocked shots by a country mile, yet never lose players to injury.

The only sure fire way would be to repaint the ice with a 3 second skate zone.... or move the puck faster and look for one timers..

i agree that first, second, third line stuff is meaningless. talbot played exclusively in our bottom-six this year and averaged 16 minutes a night. i suspect if we were to sign a guy like gaustad, he and max would probably play about 14 minutes a night, even if they're penciled in on the "fourth" line at even strength. games when we are up, they'll see more ice. when we're down, not so much.

Some do, but they are few and far between. Couturier has the smarts and hockey sense to overcome it, but it's still an obstacle.

you have to be logical... why would the islanders trade Streit and the 4th overall pick in a super strong draft for JVR. who says murray is around 4th

Sometimes you have to trade from a strength to fortify a weakness. They need to have some of that young core on the defensive end. For the right player, I'd be willing to deal JVR or Voracek.

i really don't see that happening...he has plenty of upside. As long as he's pushed the right way, he will have a successful career. The Flyers know they have a special player. I'm not going to predict how he will do...other then say he will turn out to be good two way player.

they have had some injuries, not as suspect as the Flyers at times. the King has held the fort and has kept them in more games then most goalies. Thats the biggest difference, that i can see.
