Funny how the Rags lead the NHL in blocked shots by a country mile, yet never lose players to injury. - PLindbergh31
That is because the Flyers training staff has yet to master the alchemy involved in creating the magic, no injury, shot blocking salve the Rangers developed.

It would help out in the neutral zone. But once the puck is established in the offensive zone, I don't know if it would matter. - MJL
even still if the neutral zone isn't clogged up that should open up more opportunities for oddmann rushes and such. |

they have had some injuries, not as suspect as the Flyers at times. the King has held the fort and has kept them in more games then most goalies. Thats the biggest difference, that i can see. - phi1671
I'm sorry, I can't call him the king. Now Boredeur, (my god he made a save for the ages last night) still plays on a rival and is more deserving of the name if anyone. However yes the few times he's needed in the game whent he pucks make it past his 5 other goalies (they do play defense pretty good so forgive the resentful exaggeratiion) he's there and did make some big stops. I just don't like seeing a team win in that fashion, it's not only suffocating to play against but sleep inducing to watch. |

absolutely (frank)ing annoying, I'm sure Hammarby can rant about this issue more efficiently than myself. - JoeRussomanno
I'm sure he can. Hammar can get after it. I think the Rangers are wearing kevlar equipment. It's the only thing I can come up with. |

Cooter will be a top line guy sooner than later. But I think right now he is best suited as the third line shutdown center. It is a role he can thrive in, and gives him the right kind of pressure for a kid his age....IE, worry about preventing goals, not producing goals.
Briere will be gone soon enough, and Cooter will have plenty of time to hone his offensive game as he gets bigger and stronger, and improves his skating and faceoffs.
I sense that sometimes people talk about "3rd line center" as being some kind of exile where he wont get minutes or some such thing. But if he is out against the other teams top lines constantly, he will be gorging on minutes. Add to that his PK and PP time, and Cooter will easily reach 20 minutes a night in that role.
Many of us need to relax when talking about labels...1st line, 2nd line, 3rd line.....blah blah blah. The minutes will be there. We don't need to worry about which line is which. In my opinion, the 1st line is whichever line is producing the most that particular night.
Keeping Cooter in his primary shutdown role will HELP not hinder his development. It will give a him big bite of responsibility on this team without overwhelming him with pressures you don't need to put on him...IE scoring. And believe me, out against some of these top players who have never seen their own zone, he will get plenty of offensive chances right where he is.

I can't remember, is that a Stevensism or a Lavaism?
But really, agree so much with this.
And as for the whole buried on the third line, was that true of Primeau who was a third line center when people fell in love with him? Or Brindy who was a third line center when he won the Cup?

If he gets paid, and gets like 2nd line minutes. We arent talking about a guy like Jagr that has already earned the money and is now just out for the cup. - RooNosHockey

you have to be logical... why would the islanders trade Streit and the 4th overall pick in a super strong draft for JVR. who says murray is around 4th - jak521
It's not Illogical to think JVR could land you a top 10 pick, plus a decent roster defenseman. |

Not quite sure that JVR would fetch that high of a return. |

JvR was the #2 pick a few years ago but with his cap hit and what his production has been so far I'm curious to know what the Flyers could get (not saying to trade him). |

I still wouldn't condone my team playing that style, it's just an anomaly imo that they can play that way and not be riddled with injuries. Even if they squeak a cup out this year, I don't see that injury free streak lasting. Who knows they might get to game 7 of the finals this year and have Callahan, delzotto, Richards, Stepan, McDonagh all go down with injury to a shot block. (rubs the hextall doll and prays) - JoeRussomanno
It's not a very conducive style to staying healthy that's for sure. They have a horseshoe up their ass this year it appears. I think the stars are aligned for them to win the Cup.
I find it amusing when their fans are described as 'long suffering" That phrase is repeated ad nauseum here on TV and radio in the NJ/NY metro area. It's comical. |

That suit looks like it came out of Don Knotts wardrobe from Three's Company circa 1981. |
