Technically revenue drives the cap up, so you are correct in assuming that. However, with there being a new CBA, we're going to see some adjustments and I've heard that the cap is one of the things they need to figure out. They never expected it to increase at the rate that it has. In a way, it's a good thing because it means the state of the league is good. Revenues are at an all time high. At the same time, there's a risk of leaving teams behind just like in the precap era. The teams that are only able to hit the floor are struggling in the standings now. The amount of parity has started to waver a bit. It's still there because of the floor, but hitting a the floor is causing some of the teams to lose money from year to year. - HonkFortheGoose
Dam Goosie, that was the straight breakdown NHL-conomics 321.
I think to fix the situtaion of certain teams struggling and being left behind would be solved by getting say Pheonix in to a a homerun market in Canada where the whole season sells out before it starts. |

Phoenix is only 1 team that fits that criteria though. Add Florida, the Islanders, Colorado and Columbus to the mix. There's probably 1 or 2 more as well. |

I agree completely, but you would haev to do the same for teams like, FLA, Tampa, Colorado, NYI, Dallas.
It's a widespread issue that again IMO will cause some seious battles amongst owners themselves within the new CBA process. |

Colorado has no excuse. Decent team, cold weather city, Stanley cup history. If they fail its their own fault. Ilses new stadium fixes that. Floida just won their first playoff game in 14 years this year so we don't have a fair example of what they would be like if they were decent. Same with Columbus, they both have a change at selling better if they are better. |

But that's the problem. The owners can't afford to spend big bucks to make the team better. They just don't have the resources. That directly influences the quality of the product on the ice. Which impacts the amount of butts in the seats. It's a vicious cycle, but unfortunately it's not entirely their fault. |

Honestly I think Regehr gets 5/6 minutes with PK time when our d is healthy. - Rally_Shots
i was a huge fan of the regehr trade last summer but to be honest towards the end of this past season he reminded me of how craig rivet all of the sudden started to slow down. i see that continuing this year. luckily he'll be a ufa after this season

I don't drink that stuff. I don't think any of it is any good for you. I've seen the people I work with drink that stuff like it's water and then basically run around like they have a rocket up their ass. That can't be healthy. |

Well Buffalo pre Pegula could argue that they were in that position. I'm not a fan of the cap floor(now that we have the big bucks owner) but look what Florida and Pheonix and Nashville all did in the playoffs this year. SuCcess because they made smart choices with the money they had. Particularly Pheonix and Florida. Two years ago Pheonix said enough is enough and went got some good names. Florida did the same this past offeason, both paid off. |

I think people expected too much out of him this year. I think he did exactly what I thought he was gonna do. He can lay a big hit. He's good on the PK. He brings a veteran presence to the team. His game is not flashy. He's not going to put up big numbers each year. The problem with expectations is that they are just that. Expectations. They don't generally match up with reality. |

Phoenix hasn't really been attracting big names. They've actually shipped out more than they've brought in because they had to keep the books lean due to the league running them. Nashville has been good at turning the guys they know they can't afford to keep into picks/prospects that have filled in very well. They do a good job of developing talent, but I wouldn't even put them in the category that Phoenix is in. They've still spent a decent amount and they draw pretty good crowds there. |

2011-12 NHL attendance pheonix dead last. Pulling #'s worse than the worst team in 05-06 and the league is doing so much better than they did then.

Looking like the last week in July... So much planning to do
I'd be fine drafting Gaunce, really. It'd be interesting to see if they could move up for Galchenyuk or combine our picks going after a bigger piece.... But I think he seems like a lot of what we need, |

If they can't move up for Galchenyuk or use the picks to get a stud player, I'd be fine with Gaunce and Samuelsson as their 1st rd picks. |

There's essentially 3 scenarios I would be ok with:
1. Trading up to 2 and taking Galchenyuk.
2. Trading the picks we have for a proven guy that can help now. And no, I'm not talking a guy like Stastny. It would have to be a big fish.
3. Trading the Nashville pick and some of our others for a guy like Charlie Coyle, but keeping the 12 and taking Gaunce. Now I'm not saying it has to be Coyle, but a guy that's had a good junior career and is ready to make the jump. |

Essentially any of those 3 could be feasible. Option 2 could even still allow us to keep our #12 pick. Just depends on who it is that we're dealing with and what they want. |

How bout use the 12 pick plus to move up to get Galchenyuk
then
Use Roy and the Nash pick to Calgary for the 14th pick and draft Gaunce? |

Were in a good place to be this offseason. Made sweeter by the underacheivements and failures of the leagues "best" teams in the years playoffs. |

That could work as well. I'd like to get him if possible. I just have a really strong feeling about him. This isn't something new for me either. I've been on his bandwagon since somewhere around January, which is why I wasn't so upset about the fact that we made a run and made the second half of the season remotely interesting. |

It is. And its only about as strong as 1 1/2 cups of coffee. That other one I posted makes you feel like you had a afternoon trip to Columbia. |
