I never said they were giving up the #2 pick though. I said I don't know what kind of return we would get out of them. Sekera is a solid 3-4 guy. Columbus's defense is a mess. He would be a good fit there. Not every guy that a team is going to try and get is a "big fish." As far as Roy's integrity goes, we honestly can't even say what kind of guy he is. None of us personally know him or have any idea of what his intentions are. He may very well like being in a city like Columbus where he could be a "rock star." They don't have a lot of other stuff going on there, so he'd be someone who's famous getting him whatever he wants. I could be completely off base, but then again, none of us really know what kind of guy he is. - HonkFortheGoose
ok nowwwww youre starting to go south on me. have you ever been around him on chippewa? dudes a total jerk....pat kane 2.0 everyone hates him. ive witnessed with my own eyes him being booed out of soho and brennans on transit. a buddy of mine started a "roys a someone who is attracted to the opposite sex" chant when he walked in and he left two mins later. guy belongs with richards and carter |

Yakupov will make 3.75 mill with his signing bonuses
Galchenyuk if taken at 2 will make roughly 3.5 mil
and Grigorenko if taken at 3 will make close to 3.2 mil.
They make more than what you think. - dadeadhead
He wasn't completely wrong, I'm pretty sure the base is 1.3. But when you factor in what bonuses they can earn, that's when it starts getting out of control. |

You still don't know what kind of guy he is when it comes to his intentions regarding his career. The only people who know that are him and probably his agent. Period. Mike Richards is a complete douche from what I've heard, but I'd still take him on my team.
And BTW, I don't know you, so let's not refer to me "going south" on you. That's reserved for DD. |

Its a signing bonus that gets included automatically.
No top overall pick has made less than 3.5 mil against the cap since the lockout. |

youre right....i thought only base salary contributed to the cap hit. i now see that top picks account for apprx 3.5 mil...just check nuge and landeskog data its right around there |

The Max they can make base wise this year is 975k but totally it is 3.775.
It's in the CBA and I'm way to lazy to look it up at this hour. |

ok were getting off track lets talk trade scenarios to get yak or yuk
lets be realistic here. VERY realistic. whats it gonna take to get either? i see us targeting yuk because hes a center and yak is an undersized wing (listed at 5'11...although ive seen footage of him completely wrecking guys much bigger than him)
but to be honest im not even sold on galchenyuk he didnt have a point in two reg season games this year and only had 4 pts in 6 games in the playoffs. maybe the knee was worse than expected
i digress...lets assume hes gonna be as good as we thought. whats it gonna take for the #2 pick from cbus ? |

I honestly want nothing to do with Yakupov. He has Daigle and Brendl written all over him.
To get the #2 overall you're looking at McNabb/Pysyk, Stafford, a mid level Prospect, our 1st, and Calgary's 2nd. |

Did you know Pavel Brendl scored 320 points in 178gp in Jr's and was supposed to be the next Pavel Bure?
He scored an additional 78pts in 40 playoff games too. |

I would say much like Mcnabb, he has a high of a 2/3 and a low of a 5/6.
So it remains to be seen. |

they seem to have similar skill sets...
(if you get where i'm going with this...)
also, if you could determine which one you like and which one you could live without of the two, and the bluejackets felt the opposite, then you have to make a deal like the one you proposed to get your #1 imo. |

I still say we see something crazy at the draft like 99'.
Just a hunch. |

yeah, i can definitely see that, there are some desperate teams...
i could see the islanders really shocking people, but brian burke's still in the leagues so never know.
do you think sabres have it in them to go crazy and pull a 99 draft? |

Nope.
I see them trying to get Galchenyuk but not willing to pull the trigger.
then making a move with Roy and the nashville pick(even though I really want them to take Henrik Samuelsson with it) and getting another center like Hodgson from a team and trying to roll 4 lines again. |

hmm, read his scouting report, interesting player.
i think we can all agree we don't want the sabres to do any half measures at this point. as i've stated already "WOW US DARCY!!" it just seems that being bold at the draft is a natural escalation now since they haven't done it yet. i don't know what the draft class is next year though, maybe it makes less sense this year and more this year, either way, we've gotta upgrade the roster eventually to get better. |

I think you are Estimating WAY too much...
The Oilers blogger is saying that Myers is worth giving up #1
If that true, you are far far far off on what #2 would cost
Especially with the drop off between #1 & #2
Do U think it would cost that much to get someone like Getzlaf or Staal, etc?
I think u are giving up too much for one of them,
So for an UNPROVEN player, that's down right ridiculous |

Supposedly Columbus does not want to draft a Russian this year; with the busts of Zherdev and Filatov, they cannot afford to take one with the second overall pick (even if the Russians in this year's draft have been playing in North America for years).
They also have a lot of needs, including an offensive defenseman and a play making center for Nash. Making a trade with the Blue Jackets for the second overall pick will let the Sabres get the center in Alex Galchenyuk.
To BUF: 2012 1st round pick (2nd overall)
To CBS: 2012 1st round pick (12th overall), 2nd round pick (42nd overall), Derek Roy, Andrej Sekera
If another pick or prospect is needed, I'd throw in 2013 1st round pick; the UFA class is stronger next year and if the Sabres have a successful year (as expected), that pick will be in the late teens or twenties. - rcostel77
Im pretty sure I'm the biggest Galchenyuk supporter on here (along w gerbe)...
But these kind of trades are nuts
Let's say Galchenyuk is a 100pt player...
Is he really worth...
-Roy, 65-70pt player
-Sekera, whose value freaking skyrockets every time he plays an international tourney (saying he "outplays" chara is a joke... He's 5xs better than him! Minimum! Wow... Why can't he play for us like that?)
-and then u also wanna give them THREE potential top6, top4 guys?!
HELL NO!
And like I said, I really, really like Galchenyuk |
