word on the street is that the cap will go up to $69m - b0s0o1
Meh. I dont know how I feel about that. You are going to have teams paying guys 2x what they are worth just to get the cap hit. |

CBJ still needs a good point producing center. Which when Roy wants to be, he can. CBJ also get a center prospect and a High D prospect. So it makes sense for them.
Stafford IMO was the follower of Ennis and Foligno. Ennis drove that line with his speed. Foligno with his size and phyisical play, and Stafford just enjoyed the ride.
This team needs to change its identity. - ImThatGuy

of course, having players who can finish helps out tremedously |

save for parise, who may or may not be available, this ufa market is very thin...it'll give the sabres room trade-wise |

well put...
sabres did their shopping last year and would be better served waiting until 2013 when there are more options |

Being aggressive on July 1 for the sake of being active will just net another Leino like contract. The prudent thing to do is what you have suggested, lay back and explore trading options. |

If the cap goes up to $69 mil. There wont be any options. |

Exactally. Since the Pegula take over they have spent Millions to show that they are willing to spend Millions. They just haven't spent wisely yet. |

IMO, the best players to target are the 3rd line guys in the UFA market. Someone like Steve Bernier. Only making 525K in NJ. Pretty good bang for your buck. He controls the game down low using his size.
I would not be opposed to brining him back. Has size and complements it with some skill and will only cost about a mil. |

I've heard it's possible with a new CBA that it gets lowered this year. Many of the teams that are considered small market are bleeding money from year to year just trying to stay at the cap floor. Something is going to have to change in order to allow them to remain competitive without having to spend so much. |

sure there are...for example, if the sabres would/could trade for stastny and his $6m, they wouldn't need to move as much salary...
$69m means miller takes up even less of their cap-space, same with the others...
with two #1's, two #2's, and three moveable players in the final year of their contracts (roy, leo, and regehr,) they have plenty of flexibility |

I think they'll be more aggressive on draft day than they are on UFA day. |

boyes was foolishness...leino looks to be that way as well...but leino's contract won't be felt as much when the cap's at $69m...
and i'm still not giving up on him |

I don't want Stastny. It's Derek Roy at 2.6 mil more per year. He also has an attitude problem from what I heard, so it's not like you lose that aspect of Roy. Stastny chooses when he wants to play and give it his all and when he wants to coast. I don't need that guy on my team, even if we trade Roy. I'd rather keep Roy. At least he makes less. |

IMO you take a run at any of the Big 3 in Anaheim or San Jose before looking at Colorado. |

i think that nbc tv revenue will be the driving forcemoving the cap up |

Technically revenue drives the cap up, so you are correct in assuming that. However, with there being a new CBA, we're going to see some adjustments and I've heard that the cap is one of the things they need to figure out. They never expected it to increase at the rate that it has. In a way, it's a good thing because it means the state of the league is good. Revenues are at an all time high. At the same time, there's a risk of leaving teams behind just like in the precap era. The teams that are only able to hit the floor are struggling in the standings now. The amount of parity has started to waver a bit. It's still there because of the floor, but hitting a the floor is causing some of the teams to lose money from year to year. |

Sorry. I just don't know why so many people around here have it in their head that Stastny would be a good fit here. Or how they can justify the amount of money he makes. |

Pommer-Thorton-Vanek. That line is a recipe for success, Van and Pommer would be able to snipe all day with The assits coming from Jombo Joe. Vanek would be able to use his skill instead of cloggin the front of the net. |

no doubt the kids got talent...he's also entering his prime...
with the sabres lack of top-two center strength and the potential availability of stastny due to the lanche depth at center, it seems like a workable scenario |
