The bonus cushion seems likely, and if Eklund is right, the amnesty buyout is still possible - Jsaquella

The in-season cap space is fine. The summer space is the concern. That's where the Bob cap hit is a pain in the butt. As are the Walker and Pronger hits, and the Shelley hit to a lesser extent. |

One school of thought is that there's good depth and the guy you get at 10 might be no better than a guy you get at 20. There will be several good defensemen on the board at 20, when the Flyers pick.
The other school of thought is that there's a drop off around 12-14 that is fairly significant. I usually defer to OB18 because he's deep into the prospects. - Jsaquella
Frankly, I don't think the Flyers have the firepower to get a top 10 pick, and yes, I'm assuming that JVR, Schenn, et. al are OFF the block.
Bob and our 1st would net, I'd say, somewhere around a 14th. That's if the team with that pick would need a goalie, which they don't. (I believe the Stars? Flames?? Something like that...)
The most realistic option is to swap our 1st and Bob for the 10th pick from Tampa, and I don't think that's enough.
I just don't see the Flyers trading up this year. And I think it's the right move with the depth of the class I was talking about earlier. |

Whats the logic in having LTIR count against the cap off season but be granted exemption status in the regular season? I don't get the rationale behind this rule. |

You get a 10% cushion in the summer, but if there's no games, there's no injured list |

You didn't read what I said
I was saying, strictly from a "numbers" standpoint, Bob and the 20th would get the Orange and Black somewhere around the 14th.
The problem is that all the teams succeeding Tampa at the 10th pick don't need a goalie. So, our most reasonable option is to give Bob and our 1st for Tampa's first at #10, which won't get it done, in my opinion. |

it's pretty dumb, but to play devil's advocate, during the offseason they're not missing any games |

That was the purpose of the question, to spur discussion.
I agree, not likely they can use Bob to move up ten slots, and if they move JvR or Schenn, it's to land a top defenseman, not to move up in draft. |

I still have little to no faith in this organization drafting and developing a top 4 Dman. When was the last time this happened? Pitkanen? Johnnson? |

do you think a 3rd round pick would sweeten the pot enough to get the deal done? |

I'd rather keep the third rounder, unless a guy I really, really want is there at ten. |

I would lean towards yes, but I think that Tampa would want more than Bob, the 20th and 50th picks if one of those guys is on the board.
They need defensemen and a goalie. |

Emerick with a Patrick Kane reference to twist the knife a little more. It's not bad enough watching these two (frank)ing teams in the ECF. - PLindbergh31

they get a goalie and have back to back picks with a strong likelihood of good dmen being available |

It'd be closer...
I think at that point, it'd come down to 2 things:
1. Would Homer want to give up 2 picks? and, more importantly...
2. Would the Bolts want to give up their #10 for Bob and a few picks as opposed to going after Luongo, Bernier, etc?
If I'm Stevey Y, the answer to #2 would be no, and I'd go after someone with more of a track record than Bob. I'd even be able to get him for "free" via fee agency, without having to give up my 1st rounder.

It does seem kinda dumb. There really is no off-season. Thats the time teams draft, trade, sign players etc. Not being able to do so because they have players who will be off the cap when actual play starts... thats retarded.
