To that point I think he'd get better development in a pro organization rather than a college (no disrespect to UNH).
You can always go back to school. He didn't graduate anyway. - Scoob

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: JVR and the Curse of Potential - bmeltzer
My offseason moves..... in NHL 12. I traded JVR and a 1st to Nashville for Suter, then traded Briere to the Ducks for a 1st. Signed Hal Gil via free agency.
Currently I'm up against the cap and have lost the 1st 2 games of the season via shootout. I have 3 of my defensemen turning 38. It's bad. I may have to fire myself. |

This is all fun and all......let's trade away our talent but did anyone on this site last year talk about getting rid of JVR.......NO !!! And now with a wasted season due to injury everyone wants to ship him out so we can replace with whom? Get better defense or resign jags.....count me out....he's got size, he's strong, and has speed. That combo is hard to find.....he can be an elite player....better than a lot of other power forwards b/c of his speed....so stop with the trading of JVR and look for ways to trade for a goalie. |

The idea of him probably having a sweetheart he didn't want to part ways with was creeping into my head. A buddy of mine's kid turned down a full boat ride to virginia tech to stay local with his girlfriend. ugh youth is wasted on the young |

I have to interrupt you sir, but there is an equal amount of us who oppose trading JVR unless it reaps significant value. |

6'3" & 220, who plays as if 5'6" 170.
I have no doubt that Giroux, Talbot, Hartnell & Simmonds would skate head first through a brick wall if that's what it took to win. Can't say the same with JVR. He's content and comfortable playing the perimeter and avoiding any meaningful contact. Been that way since day 1.
How the hell do you need to be prodded to use every bit of size and speed to create chaos? By this stage of the game, you either have it or you don't, and he clearly doesn't have it. Some things you can't teach.
No doubt a 65-70 point player if paired with Giroux. A Hartnell with more skill minus the physicality and nastiness. If not on the score sheet, invisible. If Holmgren is fine with this, so be it. But for the 2nd overall pick & skill set/package, a major disappointment. - LW2530
There's a long history of bigger players-LeClair, Joe Thornton, Vincent Lecavalier to name 3-that take longer to develop and become big time NHL players.
As far as not being able to teach things, a lot depends on the developmental process. JvR was quite likely the best player in every league he played in, just because of his natural talent. Regardless of the analysis from the arm chair, that's something that has to be learned. Guys like the ones I mentioned before had to learn it, and now JvR has to learn it.
It's stupid to give up on a 22 year old with JvR's natural ability, just because he's not as physical as some would like. The same knocks that JvR has now, John LeClair had as a 22 year old-and he didn't manage to put up half the numbers JvR has at the same age. |

I'm in favor of any trade that improves the team. (Why would you make any other kind of trade?) |

I think it speaks to his character that he wanted to develop his game more, and get an education in the process. Kid took a lot of heat for it. - tangent_man
My issue with his choice to go to UNH is that the level of competition in the AHL is certainly higher than NCAA. |

There's no need to trade JvR. They also have a goalie, so no need to address that last part. |
